Shiva Samui (formerly Samui Beach Village)

Been there for drinks and beach only, superb service and best cocktails on the island, reasonably priced. Beach is also stunning.

Extrem schlecht. Unfreundliches Personal. Sitze bereits seit 20 Minuten, nachdem 4 Leute vom Personal mich gesehen haben und mir auch die Karte in die Hand gedrückt haben, noch immer da und warte, bis jemand meine Bestellung aufnimmt.

Stayed in the ocean view room with a shared plunge pool. Lovely to have a view of the ocean and to able to walk out onto the beach from our room.

The plunge pool was great although the guests upstairs asked us not to swim in it at certain hours as they were on a different time zone to us and were sleeping in the morning when our kids wanted to swim.

I didn’t find the staff friendly.

The place felt like it didn’t have life in it - if I found out it was closing down in the bear future I wouldn’t be surprised as it felt like it wasn’t alive. The pool bar was constantly the deserted. The kids club was a very small little area next to check in and we never took our kids to it because it looked like they would’ve just been sitting around bored.

The food was ok but overpriced, for the price charged I would’ve expected it to be organic. I would’ve liked to see more plant based options and organic healthy choices. In the end we ate all our food at a local wellness retreat.

It’s quite far away from everything so we spent around $60 AUD per day on two taxis to get to the cafe/food we wanted. If you asked the resort to book a taxi for you it was WAY more expensive than if you booked via the Grab app. Grab App was around 500 Thai Bhat to Vikasa Life Cafe whereas the hotel said they would charge us 900 Thai Bhat if they booked it.

The room was clean and nice, it was so nice to have room service tidy up each day.

There was no staff available after 9pm or 10pm.

People smoked next to the communal large pool at the beach club which is a shame when small children are swimming next to them in the pool, and also not nice to be near for any non smokers.

So it was really lovely to be staying almost on the beach in Koh Samui but it was too far from everything and I kept finding myself comparing the customer service to our stays in Bali and there was no comparison - in Bali they were so friendly and accomodating and helpful, but I didn’t find that to be the case in Thailand, at least not at Shiva Samui. Now that I’m home in Australia I find myself delighted at how friendly customer service is here upon returning.

Grateful for the holiday but not somewhere we desire to return to.

We stayed over Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Great place for a family vacation. You have everything you need and we enjoyed it very much. If you want a quiet family holiday, this is a good place.

Why I gave only 3 stars? Let me explain.

We stayed in the Ocean Room, the cheapest option I believe. 1 Room with seaview and a pool shared with 1 neighbor (ground and 1st floor)
So my review is only for Ocean Room category - the bigger houses are way better! But that’s an expensive choice for 2 + 1 year old.

Expectations:
We expected actually more of a 4-5 star resort as it was looking promising on the website and a friend recommended it for a family stay.

Room:
We were generally happy with our room, basic amenities such as fridge, tv, kettle and coffee supplies.
Actually a very comfortable bed, which I even missed in some good 4 star hotels when I was travelling.
Also you have a pool In front of the house, with sun beds - which is a really good option for a quiet day.
But the Ocean rooms have seen better times, they are a bit old, squeaky doors and sometimes a call to maintenance is required.
In the first 2 Nights we had a room where we had to call 3 times maintenance because the hot water was not working.
After the toilet door’s lock broke, my wife was trapped 40 minutes until they could break the door - definitely more stable than it looks.
We requested a new room (which we got next day) Still same House by Design and size but better - still one more time we had to call maintenance for hot water.location:
This is a big plus for us, it is in a very quiet area. The Beach is not crowded at all (except when there is lots of wind all the Kite Surfers come)
It is perfect with a little child, you can let it run around freely.
Downside of it, there is nothing near walking distance except the Tiger and Sealion show (which i don’t like to recommend at all - poor living conditions for animals)
So rental vehicle is needed if you want to me more agile. Good thing that they offer shuttles to different locations.

The Beach:
The beach bar is lovely and the beach is mostly clean around there. Unfortunately if you go 50 meters left or right from it, you will find a lot of plastic trash that came from the see. Some more cleaning here would definitely upgrade it.

Kids club:
I definitely hoped for more, just one room for kids and we used it only once. We preferred to go to the pool or beach with the kid.

Restaurant:
We had breakfast included, which is very good. We often also had dinner there.
The cocktails are really great, the food is nice.
Only one advice: if you ask if it is spicy curry - they say it’s not spicy- but it definitely is for Europeans you stomachs will not be happy for a day, if you are not used to spicy food.

Staff: really friendly and they help you with anything you ask for.

Positiv:
- Clean room & resort
- Quiet area with a lot birds
- very Friendly staff
- good bed
- nice little balcony in front
- shared small pool
- nice view
- good service
- Shuttle service I.e to Lamai 3x per Day

Negative:
- Ocean rooms are old, doors squeaky
- Sometimes no hot water, need to call maintenance
- beach could be cleaner
- WiFi is not good in the room or beach club (but actually we should use less internet on our vacations)
- 10-15% overpriced (my guess)

I definitely recommend this resort, if you look for a nice and quiet family vacation, or you are several couples to rent a villa.
The Area is amazing and quiet, romantic bird music all the time.
The resort is not crowded, which is why don’t mind the little higher price.

The best villa with its own pool I have stayed at! 30 Meters from the sea with view that just takes your breath away. Food was good but quantity was less. Breakfast offered was less on variety but good.

Super schöner Ort wer tagsüber an einer beachbar mit schönem Strand entspannen will. Das esswn ist auch sehr lecker! Zum Schwimmen im Meer ist es eher nicht geeignet, max. Zum planschen in kniehohem Wasser. Ein Pool steht aber zur Verfügung.

Decided to bring my family here on my day off Sunday and it was a very good idea! This place is just amazing. The whole pool area with plenty of sun beds, bar, pool table, ping-pong table is just great. They got all kinds of spots where you could chill out.if the sun beds is not your thing a cozy group of outdoor furniture with comfortable pillows might be a better option. The whole place has great music on an acceptable level that gives an relaxing feel. The staff is amazing.really great! They have a guy running around taking care of the guests and I hope they pay him good, because he sure make an amazing job! Hats off to our waitress as well, she really was super friendly and came over and had a chat with us. Now to the lunch and I am sorry, but there is by my opinion work to be done in this department! I had the Village Burger and it was a big disappointed.the bun ok and salad fresh, but the beef patty was overworked and lacked flavour. I also had several chunks of cartilage. The thai food we had tasted much better, it was flavour full. Since Shiva is a beach club we got to mention that the beach here is amazing as well. Calm water and beautiful white sand beach. Overall this place is just amazing and it is highly recommended!

Additional feedback: we came back and tried a few other dishes and I got to say the masaman curry was amazing as well as the caesar salad and combo platter. Highly recommended!

One of the best resorts we have been to. Great rooms and villas, wonderful food and top hospitality. The whole staff is super friendly and they do everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Kind staff, helpful with everything, clean rooms, beside the beach with massages and spa facilities. The owner is nice welcoming people. Pool is tranquil with bar and nice music. Thankyou #shivaSamui

Amazing experience. Friendly, courteous, warm staff. Villas were stunning. All facilities were in place and well-maintained. Beach front access with activites available. Great room service. A true gem. Very peaceful and made for a wonderful getaway!

Amazing atmosphere with a great social vibe especially at the pool parties they host like the really fun Salsa night they have on Tuesdays with a free Salsa lesson guaranteed to get you moving. I love Salsa so I'm probably biased but the other nights are great too!

Yes, it's a dead see facing name sake resort. Please note, the sea is dead, dirty and water colour is neither blue nor green.
The property is not maintained well and is in a deserted location of koh Samui. The cab will take 700-800 THB one side just to take you to city centre.
Extremely difficult to reach back to this property at night. They have a cash crunch situation and has made all efforts to cut all costs, which leads to degraded service to the guests. There is very few staff and what is the biggest shock is there is no staff in the property after 10 pm. Yes this means NO security as well. Its an open beach area and many properties are close by.high probability of burglary. Wen we came at 10: 30 at night after dinner, it was dark and we had to walk to reach our room. 4 dogs started barking at us and there was no staff to save us, somehow we managed to reach our room.
The Reception lady is very very rude. They are racist and doesn't talk with respect or politeness.
They will claim that they offer a lot of inhouse sports activities, but don't fall prey. They will give excuses like concerned staff did not came or weather is not supportive.

I fell prey to this property, and am taking efforts to give my reviews just to ensure more travellers do not fall prey to this.
AVOID this property guys

Stayed here for a week in a group. We had a great time. There always seemed to be events on in the afternoon, beach parties, fire shows, dancing lessons etc. The food and drinks are good but won't blow your socks off. The public area was very well kept, the private Villa was spacious and well equipped even if we did have a couple of power outages. Staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous place. "normal" rooms have a semi private pool, but if you can book a villa you really get the works. 5* staff and nice beach club.

Exceptional all inclusive resort, relaxing and chill atmosphere. Themed parties every night. Highly recommend!

Beautiful serene and realxing with great location beach views and excellent service. Highly recommend to check out even for a drink and dip in the pool.

Driving around the beautiful hills on Koh Samui and disturbing to see illegal trash dumping by this luxury hotel Shiva Samui (Samui Beach Village). Don't stay here! They have a responsibility to the environment, community and mother nature. Sad such a luxury resort can do this.

Amazing beach, neat and clean, tourist mainly foreigners, less thai people. Water was clean and waves good for swimming. Overall i loved it

There is Salsa party every Tuesday in Beach bar.nice music, free lesson and open air. Before party we had dinner there. Perfect Italian buffet! Everything is fresh and tasty.
