Phangan Rainbow Bungalows

Amazing place. Great rooms. Great food. Plenty of nearby options for food and nightlife. Motorbike rental nearby. The motorbike people even helped us arrange an early ride to the pier, when we returned the bike. All in all, I had a great time staying here.

Clean and spacious rooms with AC, hot shower and fridge. Beautiful and well maintained garden area. Excellent hosts, location is good halfway between Thong Sala and Haad Rin.

After 4 nights at Haad Yao, we moved down to - for us - a new beach. Due to good reviews, we chose Phangan Rainbow Bungalows.
We immediately noticed that down here at Bankai Beach, July is "Low Season in Low Season". In addition, a lot of wind and rain had been forecast, so many of the beach restaurants had closed.
(Unfortunately, the restaurant at Phangan Rainbow also had the same - but they served breakfast)
We were met by a very nice Noi (Noy?) who apologized (!) for the bad weather that had been forecast. We checked into a clean and nice Beachfront bungalow with balcony (2 chairs, table and hammock), fridge, a table and 1 chair - no kettle (but we were allowed to borrow!), 1 double bed and 1 single bed - the single bed was used as storage space as there are no cupboards and wall hooks.
A shower (in a bathtub) with good pressure - delicious! (Must run a little before the hot water comes on).
The predicted and long-awaited rain came (it hasn't rained here for several months) - and then (also extremely nice) Martin came over with an umbrella for us.
On this side of the island, the water recedes (more?) now in the summer. It rises slightly in the evening but it is very shallow and not so suitable for swimming at this time of year. Martin says that the water goes all the way up to the restaurant in winter.
We mostly used the restaurants on the street for lunch and dinners. We chose to walk (more exercise = more Chang) but clearly an advantage with a scooter. Taxis on the street. ATM and "supermarket" 10 minutes' walk.
Nina's Coffee shop just up the street will do and so do all the local Thai restaurants we tried. The shallow water also makes long walks on the beach a breeze.
Despite the weather forecast - there was some sun in the last few days and then we got to test the sunbeds at the resort!
We had 4 lovely and relaxing days/nights here at Phangan Rainbow Bungalows. Noi and Martin are just lovely and we can recommend the place 110%.
We would love to come again - maybe around Easter time!

If you’re intending to go to the Fullmoon Party, don’t stress about staying in Haad Rin.
Phangan Rainbow Bungalows is just a quick ride away from both Haad Rin and Thong Sala, which are the busy areas of Koh Phangan.
The location of the Bungalows is absolutely perfect. It is very quiet, and therefore nice to enjoy the absence of partying noise. The restaurant is located right at the beach, so I found myself spending hours in the restaurant relaxing and enjoying the view.
The fact that it is family-owned made the stay even more enjoyable. The family gives you a lot of personal space, but you still get to know them and talk to them if you want. During our stay, there were two pit bulls roaming the grounds. The female pit bull is extremely friendly, while the male likes to be left alone. The family informed us when we checked in that we should leave the male alone.
The bungalow was clean, but had some small insects roaming inside.
Each bungalow is equipped with a hammock, which makes the sunset evenings absolutely amazing.
I really recommend this place, it is truly relaxing and will save you a good amount of money.

Just spent 9 glorious days at Rainbow Bungalows, and I can't say enough good things about my stay. The food was spot on (Try the krapow), and the grounds are immaculately clean and well presented. The rooms are neat and tidy, the food is affordable, I dunno, what else could I say, I didn't want to leave? Milly, the new puppy makes for a friendly companion fora walk down the beach or just someone to hang with on the deck, and Noy and Martin are wonderful hosts, especially if you are good for a laugh or two.

Absolute best hostel to stay in if you're attending the Full Moon party.

Has a massive pool for the pre-party and right on the beach, literally opens up right onto the party (not the best option if you want a quiet night in a early sleep, I got back in at 3am and passed out but the party went on all the way until sunrise).

I stayed one night just for the Full Moon party and couldn't have asked for a better hostel. Big, comfy beds, strong AC.

Cold showers, rude hosts, and I was told breakfast was free and then upon checking out the host goes 'you had a coffee at breakfast, right? 65 baht'
Stay somewhere else. This place sucks.

Edit in response to the owners response.lol if reading that doesn't make you wanna go somewhere else, not sure what will. This was by far the worst place I stayed at during my 2 month trip to Thailand. Literally.

This is paradise. Owners are really nice and attentive. Location is superb. Bungalows are really clean (I use term grandmother clean) I highly recommend

Clean bungalows, wonderful restaurant with beautiful home cooked fresh food.
Beach with sunbeds and kayaks to hire. Very beautiful gardens.

Just go! Staff friendly and it all either on the beach or steps away. I hope they put tea kettles and some of the other bungalows other than that it’s a terrific value on a great setting

This is a 5 star place. Should NOT be misunderstood as a 5 star hotel. But the place is perfect! Private beach. Bungalows straight on it and a view that is perfect. The place is run by a lovely family mixed from Australia and Thailand. (Perfect combo) including dogs and a cat with two working legs. That make your stay even better. We had one of the bungalows right on the beach. And they had aircon. Everything is clean and nice. The food is good and you have several good restaurants nearby. They do not provide transport to and from Harbour. But there is taxis driving by continuously so no worries. A ok scooter rent nearby as well. If you shall have your perfect bungalow experience. It should be right here! Oooh and not forget the hammocks! Hanging between the palms on the beach and in front of your bungalow! I felt I was in heaven!

I have been visiting this island Koh Phangan and Rainbow Bungalows on and off for the past 30 years. I have seen Koh Phangan develop its roads from two lane flooded dirt tracks to paved concrete roads. I’ve watched single fibro cement bungalows with torch lights, simple plumbing, drop toilets & no aircon develop into well appointed, nicely painted apartments.
Bungalows now have western toilets, split system air conditioning in some (or fans) hot showers with great water pressure and a bath.
Not to mention the views.
This visit seems different for some reason. It is visit number six, The craziness has gone (it may return) but for the moment, Koh Phangan is waking from a two year slumber that was Covid.
The island has had time to recover & breathe! The fishing trawlers and the constant overfishing of the oceans has stopped. At the moment there is hardly any tourists, which is bad for businesses but seems to be good for the island.
Previously if you had a motorbike you had to avoid speeding tourists that had no regard for road rules, this trip, there is NONE of that, it’s back to nature.
The sunsets are better, clearer with no pollution haze
The food on offer is just as good as it’s ever been
I have also noticed, that due to the lack of haze, the views across to Koh Samui are so much clearer this time
The usually crazy Haad Rin (famous for its monthly Full Moon Parties) is almost deserted, the beach is pristine, the water is clear & clean, gone are the very loud doof doof bars replaced with bars playing a more mellow selection. Haad rin used to be overrun and the beaches were littered, the bars were painted black (for night effect) so during the day everything seemed very dingy and dark, those bars are gone & the area is now a delight to visit. The full moon parties are returning slowly though.
Since my last visit there are various large grocery stores that have been built, with everything now on offer.
I can’t say how pleased I am to be back, how pleased I am for the island & the locals, sure, the tourists will return, but for the moment it’s beautiful.

We flew on Jetstar direct from Melbourne Australia to Phuket,
Then one night in Phuket,
Then Bangkok air from Phuket to Koh Samui,
A quick transfer to the port and quick 25 minute catamaran transfer to Koh Phangan.

Do yourselves a favour & visit before it gets crazy again.

Really enjoyed staying here. The price was good the owners were very pleasant to deal with and the room was clean. Nice beach access. Not a party place wich was good for us. I would definitely stay here again.

This place is wonderful! The bungalows were clean and came with a fan (necessary!). The restaurant patio is a lovely place to spend some time watching the ocean. Moped rentals are right next door, the owners were very kind and helpful. The grounds are gorgeous! Would absolutely stay here again!

We stayed one week in here with my friend. Even if it was full moon party time, place was really calm and nice. Owners were great and bungalow was very clean, totally worth of the price. Supermarket and most of the restaurants are a bit far but there are many scooter rental places nearby.

We stayed here for 5 nights and we had a amazing time. Great view, nice bungalows, beautiful garden, delicious food, a lovely family and staff. Thank you for the good times! All the best for Noy, her family and staff! We come back:)

We came here for lunch and dinner the other day.
Super nice service and we ate here the absolut BEST curry (yellow & massaman!) we had in our five-week Thailand Trip!
Absolutly a reason to come back to Koh Pangan again!

This place is a true gem. We loved to stay there. The owners are very nice and welcoming. The food is excellent, the view at the beach side is outstanding. I want to go back there. Right now.

Had a wonderful time here. Great owners who were very accommodating. Great location near a quiet beach. Would definitely recommend staying here. Very delicious Pad Krapow as well.
