A nice hike to the top. If you are a good hiker, it will take you about 90 minutes to go up (on the difficult route).
I took the more difficult route by mistake, but this was actually good!
You have to pay attention after you walked up for about 10 minutes and walk on top of a small dam to the other side of the river. Now if you go right immediately, then you are on the old (wrong) path. It is marked with blue dots. This path is not always easy to follow. Sometimes you can find it easily and then not at all. You should use maps.me or OSMand if you want to go up here. I think this path is nicer then the other one (which I used to go down).
If you want to follow the official path, then just continue straight after you walked over the dam.
I would recommend to do the loop hike if you have an offline map (and know how to use it) and if you are a good hiker.
To go down I would use the official path which makes it easier to go down.

Quite a difficult hike, it goes up a lot (and it's very steep!). Take lots of water! Don't give up, the view is definitely worth it:)
Allow 2 hours of ascent, 1 hour of descent.
Entrance costs 40 baht per person.

Great hike for a bit workout. Saw some monkeys and snakes as well. Starting from Khao Ra terrace is 40 baht/person. You can also start from the main road next to old mining place, not pay the entrance fee and be on the same track.

Bring hiking shoes. Entrance fee is 40B per person. At a steady pace, just over 1h to go up and same down, morning is preferable as it's much less hot. Trail is regularly marked with signs. There is another trail, but it's not recommended.

We didn't make it to the top due to time constraints but the viewpoint at Jamais Quiet Place just before halfway up was very nice. The climb was strenuous but okay. The waterfall unfortunately had no water due to the dry season, but we saw monkeys. The entrance fee of 40 THB per person was valid for both the waterfall and the climb to the top of Kaoh Ra.

Worst hike in Thailand so far. The path is ok at the start after 10-20 min you have to fight through bushes and spider webs for the rest of the hike. Sometimes there are signs that point in different directions I don’t now if both led to the same direction.
On the way up the path was ok to follow on my way down I took the other one in the hope for a better path. It was even worse and for the first 30-40 there were multiple paths some worse than others and no signs at all.
Don’t get me wrong the viewpoint at the top is nice but the hike isn’t worth it in my opinion

Nice hike to the highest point in Koh phangan. I don't know why people recommend against the loop trail (as well as the guy in the entrance). We ascended through the eastern route. It was fine and relatively marked well with blue spray and some knots/ties. There was one point when we weren't sure if we had to go left or right but we managed. If you have some experience with hiking and stick to the gps, you'll be fine.

Please note the start of this hike is not on maps location here, this is someones private house land an property, the start of the hike is 100m before up the dirt track as you go up the hill,

I'm rating this one star because of the shameless attempts from the local entrepeneurs to capitalise off nature. Just sitting on their bums all day taking money to walk across their land is lazy and greedy. Get a job.

To avoid the fee you can climb up the river directly from the parking area and bypass their land. The river is right next to the place you park the scooters so you should be able to see and hear it easily. Just climb up the riverbed 2 minutes until you get to the waterfall. From the waterfall it is more difficult to get to the main path to khao ra, you have to cut through jungle about 200m uphill and you will need the track on an app like backcountry navigator to check you are going the right way. Or from the waterfall you could walk back towards the ticket checkpoint along the proper path, and then left turn just before you get to the ticket place.

Great hike to the highest peak on the island (635masl)
We did it during a heavy rain in an hour and a half (ascend) and hour ten (descend)

To our level I would say it’s a moderate hike
Definitely would recommend hiking boots, and plenty of water.

Amazing place, but need some new VIEW POINT STAND, because so slippery stay in stones and trees close all view

Warning: Do not use the loop route posted on Maps.me App!
We went there on March 27 from the trail head close to Khao Raa Terrace. It was steep but well marked trail all the way up. It took us 1 hour 20 minutes to get there without stopping along the way.

On the way back we decided to loop along the trail shown in Maps.me App. The trail disappeared after 20 minutes down hill. We decided to navigate with our phone and compass from my Fenix 5. Actually there was no trail physically on the ground although the App shows it was. It was a downhill path along a small creek full with cane spines, hanging vines, and rocks hard to climb. You can get lost there if you are not experienced in navigation and do not have a proper compass and map. There were ditches and underground caves on the ground one can accidentally fallen into. The cane thorns tore my pants beyond future use.
Do Not Loop and Trust the trail on Maps.me at Khao Ra!

Amazing view!
The climb isn’t that hard.it’s just very hot and humid!
Take at least 1.5 liter of water, I would recommend even more.

Disappointing view. Alot of bushes and trees blocking the views. Hike to bottle beach is much better.

Hike is challenging but not too difficult. Took an hour and a half to the top and an hour back down. The view at the top is pretty lackluster though, you will get much more scenic views elsewhere on the island.

I'd only recommend this if you really want to say you've hiked to the top of the island.

Wonderful hike to the highest Mountain on the island Koh Phangan. Best to go for sunrise to get the most beautiful views in all directions. Make sure to wear good shoes and take plenty of water. About 90 minutes moderate walk. 20 baht per person.
