Wat Chedi Luang

Now is the time to go. The tourists are gone and it's back to being a peaceful temple/chedi. Some construction on the temple currently.

Wat Chedi Luang stands as a milestone of Lanna architecture in Thailand and one of the revered religious sites of Thailand.   In the Thai language, “wat" means temple and “Luang" means large. According to the historical documents, the construction of the iconic temple was started in 1391 by King Saen Muang Ma and was completed in 1475. The temple earned its name owing to the towering height of the pinnacle of its “chedi" (pagoda) which rose well above 80 meters from the ground in the bygone time. Later, due to some catastrophic phenomena (earthquake or canon fire based upon diverse opinions), the original “chedi" was destroyed and the present one measures only 60 meters from the ground. The damaged pinnacle could never be reconstructed to its original look as nobody had the notion about how it really looked. However, the renovation of the temple was done in 1900 jointly financed by UNESCO and the Government of Japan. The newly constructed temple followed the Central Thai architectural pattern instead of its original Lanna style architecture.

A candidate for my favourite Thai temple. Absolutely a must-visit if you come to Chiang Mai. I could only visit it on my last day in town because every time I was walking there, I got attracted to visit so many other temples on my way, like Wat Bupparam for example, but Wat Chedi Luang is the quintessence, in the middle of the city center

Super chill, less fancy but super peaceful. Located right in the middle of the ancient/old City.

Observed the Makha Bucha Day celebration here last evening and it was lovely.

Worth a visit here regardless. This temple may not be the most spectacular but it is my favourite as the ruined Lanna-style chedi speaks to me. Easy to make this part of any old city walk.

ที่ที่งดงามคู่เมืองเชียงใหม่ครับ ทั้งๆ ที่อยู่ใจกลางเมือง กลับสวย สงบ ร่มรื่นดีครับ ถ้ามีโอกาสเชิญแวะเข้ามานะครับ. ️

Visiting this place at night allows better feel the atmosphere of peace. Temple is in the city center, but after 9PM Chiang Mai goes sleep. Tomorrow we will come back to see the temple in the sunshine, but we will publish some photos today. There was something to look at. Maximal grade

The stupa is absolutely worth visiting as it has a very exciting history. The main wiharn is beautifully crafted and decorated. On the side, there is a shrine reserved for men only - which harbours the city pillar and some beautiful and instructive paintings on the city’s history. The library has some older, original scriptures.

Staff at the entrance was very rude on 28.12.2018. Although it is worth see it if you come chiang mai.

วัดสวยงาม เจดีย์ใหญ่ที่เป็นที่เคารพบูชาของชาวเหนือ สถานที่ชาวพุทธรวมตัวกันในวันสำคัญทางศาสนา มาปฏิบัติธรรม เเละทำศาสนพิธี เเละเป็นเเหล่งยึดเหนี่ยวมี่สำคัญของพุทธศาสนิกทุกๆคนที่อาศัยอยู่บริเวณรอบ เเละอีกทั้งยังเป็นสถานที่แห่งการจิตรกรรมที่สำคัญ เเละมีสถาปัตยกรรมที่โดดเด่นอย่างมากที่มีความงดงามเเละประณีตจากช่างฝีมือ มี่บ่งบอกความเป็นมาเเละเรื่องราวทางพุทธศาสนา ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งสำคัญในการนับถือเเละเคารพบูชาของชาวพุธศาสนิกชนในพื้นที่

Wat Chedi Luang is a must-must visit in Chiang Mai old town. It is probably my most preferred temple in town. The old architecture gave lots of the old time feeling. When immersed in the environment, we felt like being back to thousands of years ago. There is one hall (left most from the entry) which does not allow female to be in so be aware of this. I spent almost two hours here. You may decide to go longer or shorter time frame depending on your preference.

It says that this is the main wat in Chiangmai. Entrance fee is 40 bath for adult and 20 for child. The temple is popular among tourist, but anyway you can find a place to escape crowd. There is also a "conversation club", where you can chat with monks about Buddhism.

สถานที่กว้างขวาง สวยงาม มีต้นไม้ร่มรื่น ห้องน้ำสะอาด แต่ส่วนมากจะสกปรกเพราะนักท่องเที่ยว ที่จอดรถน้อยไปหน่อย มีเก็บค่าบริการที่จอดรถ นักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติเสียค่าธรรมเนียมเข้าชม ใช้ประตูทิศใต้ (ประตูเล็ก) มีช่องจำหน่ายตั๋ว

วัดเจดีย์หลวงอีกวัดที่มีชื่อเสียงของเมืองเชียงใหม่มีเจดีย์เก่าแก่ขนาดใหญ่สร้างแต่สมัยอาณาจักรล้านนา ส่วนบนพังทลายลงมาไว้ให้นักท่องเที่ยวถ่ายภาพเป็นที่ระลึก

Some beautiful ruins, not a lot of information though. The lady responsible for the bathroom was super nice and funny.
