Jim Thompson Restaurant and Wine Bar reviews
34Good Thai food in a beautiful garden with a koi pool. The views and calmness justify the relatively high prices.
The staff were great and loved the ambiance. The price was on the higher side but the food was good but I expected slightly higher quality from this price range. The rice puffs were a let down but the fried shrimp ball was 10/10.
Beautiful cozy Thai restaurant, the presentation of the food is very nice but the taste is average. Parking available.
The food is a notch above average but the setting in an old teak home by a carb-filled pond with lots of greenery is near perfect! Strongly recommended for lunch.
Thai food for the western palate. This restaurant in the centre of Pathun Wan was a beautiful place for a late lunch. My mum, who is not familiar with Thai cuisine, and hadn't really enjoyed the flavours of the food I had devoured the previous days at local places, absolutely enjoyed her meal here. We got tom yum, fried rice and a stir fry. Everything tasted great, and was presented well. It was expensive for the quantity (and you'd much rather eat somewhere else if you generally enjoy the flavours and smells of Thai food) but it had the pretty cafe vibes in the heart of a bustling city with a nice garden and koi pond. Go for the experience, it's definitely a foreigner-dominated place. The food was absolutely delicious.
It would be nice if they opened indoor dining again. We went in June, it was so hot and we didn't care to sit outside. But it was our only option.
Also, one of the waitresses was very rude in general. You don't expect to come in to a place where you spend that much and expect to have someone roll their eyes at you. We were the only customer when we arrived, and the place filled up quickly, but I noticed she wasn't acting that way to everyone else. The other waitress (who was not assigned to our table) was lovely when she came over and I'd rather chalk this up to an individual's disposition and not a company issue.
I always enjoyed the ambience here, it's a lovely spot. However, they let themselves down a bit today. Their toasted ham and cheese panini was disappointing. They used those processed cheese squares you find in mini-marts, instead of proper cheese.
We visited after the tour and the lunch menu is quite limited only 2 pages. We tried a couple of dishes however and surprise they were all VERY GOOD! Only thing there was a wedding party when we were there so we couldn't go indoors and enjoy the AC and had to sit outside. We were famished and didnt want to go anywhere else, thankfully there were fans so it wasn't very hot and we get to dine next to the koi pond which was nice: D
Location very good with car parking.
The food is OK beautiful and art! But not for Thai come for experience
Nice premium Thai restaurant with indoor & outdoor seating. You can visit here to shop JIM Thompson items, enjoy Thai dancing, visit Thai style house & have dinner. It is also good for Thais to get upscale quality of Thai food.
Parking is at Holiday Inn hotel, please call the restaurant & there will be shuttle bus service to pick you.
I've visited the Jim Thompson House in November 2019 and I've never heard about him before. This is an amazing place and a must see in Bangkok. Even if you are staying in the city only few days and there is no time to do sightseeing you should come here. You can see here a lot of very precious items and even you can still feel the spirit of the last owner. The visiting of the house is only possible by a guided tour in English and if you tell the cashier in the ticket office your nationality (he/she will ask you) you will receive a short summary in your language which is helpful. The atmosphere in the former living space of Jim Thompson is amazing and full of energy. It's not by accident because he had consulted an astrologer and he calculated for him astrologically the day of moving into the house which was a very special lucky day and moment. I think this is also the guarantee for the magnetic effect that hundreds of tourists still come here daily even they have never heard before his name. BUT: please don't come here with small children because this is not the right place for them. It's strictly forbidden to touch anything and the guided tour is for the children boring but this is disturbing for the other adults who are interested in the history of the houses.
It's an out of this world experience! Immerse yourself in the glamour and glory of the late king of Thai silk, such a legendary person who revolutionized and modernized Thai silk, even his death was shrouded in mystery. His home is a shining example of east meets west, history and styles. After seeing his beautiful home, do make a point to eat a meal at its gorgeous cafe restaurant, with lovely ambience and super delicious Thai food. If you have dinner here, they even have Thai traditional dance performance! Do also drop by their store, which has an extensive collections of silk items and home wares. Perfect place to spoil yiurxdkf9and your love ones, or find a souvenir or two. This I think, is a must do for Bangkok visitors, especially for the first time.

We had a group dinner here with a set menu. It was beautiful and delicious. Just the right amount of food, attentive service and a lovely decor. Warmly recommended.
It’s a traditional Thai restaurant with authentic dishes, however they do have Western café selections. Food choices are plenty and the drinks are great as well. They have an quite section as well but inside is filed with noise with so many people. Easy to love this place due to its ambience. The place is in the city and yet does have a resort feel to it while you dine.
Very beautiful location with excellent service, great temple dance, and nice cocktails, but the cuisine could not convince at all, that's why come here best for cocktails and eat somewhere else, but don't miss it.
Great little tour of Jim Thompsons house, was fairly quick but the historical painting and artifacts were pretty cool. I really liked the architecture of the buildings as well! The garden is small but tranquil.
Sehr schönes Haus. Die Tour lohnt sich, jedoch ist sie auch sehr schnell wieder vorbei. Frei herumlaufen darf man nicht.
Most visitors come for the museum and the silk shop, but the restaurant serves Thai food as impressive as the art collection. Very good prices for food of this quality too. The ambiance of the grounds percolates into the recently-renovated dining room, and you might have a chance to see traditional Thai dancers perform during dinner.
Delicious! Classic Thai food in a great setting! Super classy place with Prices that are super affordable:)
