Wat Chang Lom

Big and beautiful 14th century stupa with intact harmika and umbrella spire having huge elephants as guardians of the base. Prayer hall is in the ruins state with nothing much left now.

วัดช้างล้อม

เป็นอีกวัดที่มีความสวยงาม และมีจุดเด่นคือมีการปั้นรูปช้างล้อมรอบเจดีย์​ การดูแลพื้นที่ดีมาก สะอาด ไม่รก เป็นห่วงช่วงฤดูฝน น้ำจะมาก กลัวน้ำจะท่วมโบราณสถาน​สวยๆที่มีในพื้นที่ แต่ทางจังหวัดดูแลได้ดีมาก

Also called the "Temple surrounded by elephants", it is located in a semi-rural area surrounded by agricultural land. Its name refers to the 32 elephant sculptures that surround the base of the main stupa. The elephant motif remained popular long after its introduction, as the temple was built in the late 14th century. There are 32 statues in total with 7 on each of the four sides and 1 each on the four corners. Each of the statues depicts forequarters only and are separated from each other by vertical flanges so that the elephants appear to emerge en masse from within the monument. The statues are, for the most part, heavily damaged as details such as tusks, trunks and ears have fallen easy prey to vandals and weathering. Surrounding the stupa are the foundations of a continuous colonnade that once allowed worshipers to walk around the monument away from the hot sun. This colonnade, built of laterite columns that were once covered in stucco, is heavily weathered and has no roof, as the roof was almost certainly constructed of perishable materials. To the east of the stupa are the equally eroded foundations of a large viharn (assembly hall).

It's a point that's easy to miss, perhaps because it's not frequented by many people, but I'd like to recommend stopping by.

It is a ruin with elephant reliefs and is free to visit, but the gate closes at 6pm.
There are cute cows grazing right behind it. The river and bridge along the way are beautiful with sparkling reflections in the evening.

It’s a historical site next to a hotel and a big area of farmland which is quite easily accessible by walk or bike. The name literally means a temple surrounded by elephants (Wat means temple and Chang means elephant). Some of the elephant sculpture got renovated to show the previous look. Highly recommend to visit with a bike (or by a bike tour)

ควรกำหนดจุดจอดรถยนต์ เพราะปัจจุบันสภาพสถานที่จอดรถไม่มีเป็นขอบเขต อาจจะส่งผลต่อโบราณสถานได้ สภาพโบราณสถานได้รับการบูรณะเป็นอย่างดี อาจจะไม่เห็นป้ายบอกทาง แต่ GPS แม่นยำ ไม่มีค่าบริการเข้าชมทุกช่วงอายุ

Decent little wat to visit. Basically a smaller version of the Chang Wat in Chiang Mai. Free to see and away from the crowds of the historical park.

Passed this elephant temple while cycling. There were no other tourists, and there’s no entrance fee either. Nice to see, and take a few photo’s.

Very impressive Wat nevertheless some of the elephants have been rebuild. This helps imagine how this beautiful temple has looked like. Great stop when you drive to new Sukhothai by bike.
