WOW, just wow! My 6th time to Thailand over the last 27 years. Seen much change and been to some amazing places! Moken eco lodge is an absolute jewel of a place! I can honestly say it’s probably been the top location I’ve had the good fortune of visiting! We were there 8 nights. The team could not have been more amazing. My wife managed to get an infected blister just before we arrived. Nothing was to much, they took her to the health centre each day, got us medication. James even played Dr, for Lisa! I know Thai hospitality is amazing, but these guys go the extra distance and become friends. Amazing people, amazing location, amazing experience.thanks James, Pam, James’s Wife (Sorry, don’t think we got your name) and the whole team for such a stunning experience! Currently en-route to Phuket. Only left a couple of hours ago. Already want to go back!

An incredible experience for me and my family. The staff were endlessly helpful, the rooms were so beautiful and simple, the beach and surrounding islands are dreamy.

The transfers were easy and the Pineapple given to us before boarding the boat to the island was so thoughtful.

We hope yo be able to return one day and have been recommending to everyone.

I'm soooo in loved with this resort!
All is so good, nice lodges and well design (even though no air con), excellent view in every moment of each day, superb hostage from all staffs. And super delicious food from the restaurant, if you are Thai pls try local menu which I love several of them like Hokkian noodle (ผัดหมี่ฮกเกี้ยน), pork stir fried with koey (หมูผัดน้ำเคย)

Sadly, and regrettably, the reviews don't reflect our experience.
First, it is important I set context. Sadly my wife had a chronic cough throughout our 3 week stay which obviously prejudiced the experience. Second, and cards on the table, I had been asked by a well known UK high end Travel magazine to report back with a view to Moken being including in a feature on Thailand. They fell short of that.
Let's start with the positives. The food was outstanding. Massive applause to the mighty fine Kitchen team. They are what holds the place together. Also the rooms were as described but are rather damp & lacking in natural light (at least the new one we were in). However - Pretty good. Comfortable beds etc. So food & rooms would earn 4.5*
Also the staff were very pleasant. Special mention to Momo, Om, & Mak who were great. Pam also was smiley & courteous. In fact most of the team 5*. The beach was also pretty & the place is secluded & quiet. So what's the issue? !
First the place is loaded with rules & there is an inflexibility to them which, ultimately, makes you feel you are at a school & not on a holiday. Without doubt the main rule enforcer is B, the girlfriend of the general manager, James. Several examples of the over-bearing manner in which these "rules" are enforced are. Padel board signed out but signed back in late. Entering an open room to collect wife's toothbrush off charge. A small child breaking a small glass and parents immediately getting charged for breakage. Breakfast not being served to visiting guests at 0958 even if service ends at 10am. During this experience I touched B on the shoulder & smilingly asked her for a degree of flexibility as this family (who I knew) had walked down the beach with kids especially for breakfast. In reply she told me that it was against their culture to be touched, and that I was dangerous & threatening etc. I pointed out that in my culture such a gesture was one of friendliness & not aggression etc, and her reaction was unnecessary. Subsequently I did chat with the Manager, James (her fiancee,) but in spite of this, she was rather "weird" for the next few weeks.
James is a good man but overall I did feel that the top team have become complacent. I noticed too many little things that really could be sorted. For example.each day the sugar pot infested with ants, bits of plastic around the place, which really could, & should, be periodically cleaned. Also knowing my wife was pretty unwell, it would have been a nice touch, to have shown her a little bit more kind gestures - like hot ginger teas, without me having to ask each time
I also think the various activities are a bit overpriced.for example around $ 50 per person to go off for a spot of local fishing (jigging style) & other tours - like "safari" are a touch heavy handed. It all added to the general feeling that the place is money focussed. Very much a business first & rather lacking in warmth & personality as a result. This feeling is further strengthened by the lack of any bar & total shut down at 9pm, and a dining room where people don't really say much to each other.
Another big thing that people really should be aware of - is, at least when we were there - the sand flies are really bad. Black flies that have bites that take a long time to disappear.and itch like crazy. Maybe it was just the time of the year, but these (not mosquitoes) were an issue! Also.do note that the water here is very clean but.being surrounded by mangrove it is brown. Just saying!
I understand why people would rate this place but, if you look deeper, you will see that the little things add up, and, from my perspective, the manager needs to deal with these little things, and especially in ensuring that all the staff have a good attitude with all of the paying guests.
Maybe it just didn't suit our needs, but no doubt the reader will be shrewd enough to make their own sound judgement!

I loved my stay here. It’s very simple and relaxed, but very well done for the price. The rooms are big with high ceilings. The service from James and the team was great, and I was really impressed with the food for such a small island and especially as it was low occupancy. It’s the perfect place to kick back and not do much. I definitely can’t wait to go back

What a magical place.
We just anchored the boat out front and went in for cold drinks. Couldn't believe how affordable the place was. Resorts usually charge exorbitant prices. Here they were the same prices you would find at a local restaurant. The staff in the restaurant area were polite and cheerfull. We will be back to stay a few days in their beautiful bungalows.

Always a pleasure visiting this place. Staff are beyond kind and very knowledgeable regarding everything island living. Clean facilities and a completely private beach. (Although don't know how long this will last with covid and all).

Pam and her staff have got this place almost perfect.
Nature has provided a beautiful beach and lovely seas with a couple of good snorkelling spots.
The resort staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The food is good and tasty.
The spacious wooden bungalows are shaded amongst the pine trees to keep cool (no air con as no mains electricity).
Nature at its best, quiet, peaceful and an escape from the real world.
A few bugs (this year it was a frog in our room) and limited connectivity don't seem to matter here.

Highlight of our trip to Thailand. A must for the traveller looking to avoid the tourist trap that invades most of Thailand. It's authentic. Beautiful and quiet. Oh, and the food is fantastic. We took a gamble booking this place as the pictures don't do it justice, it has a few stars, but so glad we did it. Will be talking about this unique place for a long time.

By far the best place we stayed on our trip. The island is simply stunning and with fewer than 300 tourists at a time, it feels like you have the place to yourself. At the time we stayed at Moken, they had only 20 guests. The staff are friendly. The rooms are clean. The food is amazing, some of the best we had in Thailand and the views and quiet makes Moken Eco Village a very special place. I'd definitely recommend taking the fishing trip as you get to eat your catch and we managed some delicious red snapper and squid - that was a highlight for us! On the last day here we took a beautiful sunrise walk along the beach, about 3km and my partner proposed. Thank you to Pam, James and Yai for a wonderful trip. We will be back!:)
