If you know the feeling of getting scammed while traveling, then you will know the feeling of what it's like to stay at Papaya Guest House. There are plenty of other options for you to choose from on the beautiful island. The cockroaches are big enough to be small pets. I had one crawling across my bare shoulder while sleeping. The staff person was the first unfriendly Thai person I've met so far. He must of been having a bad day, or maybe she was having a few bad days, who knows. It was just out of line.
If you skip past this review, no problem. Just bring ear plugs, bug spray (or a cage for the big guys), and a open mind for when you get taken.
The rest of Phi Phi is lovely. Have a great time!

Terrible place, dirty toilet, and very noisy! The staffs aren't friendly. I'd booked it online and paid for it, but the receptionist insisted that I hadn't booked it and asked for me to pay it again. I needed to wait for quite a while before she finally gave me a room. I paid the exact amount again but I asked it back the next morning, which another staff gave it to me. Not a good place to stay.

Issue#1 The papaya guest house checked in 4 people for a couple and 2 guests, paid for the room with a double bed and 2 single beds. At midnight, the owner tells us that we have to pay for another person right then or she'll call the cops and lock us out of our room. She refused acknowledging she checked all of us in, in the morning, and called her boss in the end we paid a dorm rate so the extra person didnt have to move their stuff out.
Issue #2: Another guest staying at papaya guest house left the hotel because their mattresses were filled with bedbugs. The hotel just left the bedbug filled mattresses lined up in front and around the entrance/exit pathway of the hotel. So it unavoidable that some of your clothes would rubbed against the mattresses everytime you left and entered the hotel. Papaya Guest House said someone was going to pick them up 2 days in a row until we checked out they was still there.
You get what you pay for on an island. I'd suggest (if you're not in a hurry of course) asking all of the hotels by foot. Eat some new food along the way. You're going to get roughly the same cleanliness if your searching for a $15 a night hotel/Guest house kinda room. There's better guest houses for $5 more by beaches, just grab a map and ask around. The city is very tiny, everyone walks.:)

The noise didn’t bother me, what do you expect being by the Main Street, what bothered me is how much mold was in our room. I haven’t been Ill for a couple of months I’m quite a healthy person in general yet as soon as I stay here I get ill and I can only assume it’s bevause of the Black mold on the walls, flooring and I can imagine the air con has never been cleaned so that’s harbouring a huge amount too which circulated around the room for my two nights here.
Not to mention there was nobody at the reception for a good hour we had to keep walking around then coming back with all of our luggage to then leave it at a nearby hostel instead. Wasn’t even that cheap to stay here and there wasn’t a single English speaking channel on the tv like literally every other place. Oh and there was also a massive spider as soon as we pulled our bed sheet back (to our rock solid bed) Would definitely find somewhere else next time.

Excellent location just a little bit loud at late evenings. Clean rooms, air conditioning, fridge, private bathroom with hot shower. I'm satisfied. Thank you.
