Mama's chicken

Divine fried chicken burger! Cheap and delicious. Service isn’t the fastest but chill, you’re on island time!

Edit: Came back for breakfast and it’s just as good as lunch. Huge American pancake (thick and fluffy) and lots of veggies in their stuffed veggie omelet. Perfect before rock climbing!

Practically the only worthy restaurant in this area, smoothies are very good! You can see monkeys here. Be aware and tell them not to make the food spicy. We couldn't almost eat it because it was too spicy for us.

We loved our lunch here! It's an unassuming shop towards the back of the village. The chicken burger is definitely worth trying. The Thai dishes were a massive portion size and very flavourful. Reasonable prices.

Decided to give it a shot to this place after seeing the reviews.

After walking through a bumpy path wondering ‘can we really end up at a good place on a path like this’ for 10 mins, we arrived to Mama’s chicken.

We ordered a papaya salad and 2 chicken burgers and hands down it was one of the best meals we had in Thailand (and we tried Michelin star restaurants and various street food recommended by locals)

The place is family owned, run by a mother and daughter. It is one of those places where one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. On top of having an amazing meal, you’ll be supporting a family owned business and the prices are very reasonable - you’d be surprised! Would strongly recommend.

Every single dish is so delicious, but I will feed my self all live long with her Mango sticky rice? !

Very rustic, worth the 10 minute walk from Tonsai Beach. The whole area around Mama’s is very boho and very cool. The food was delicious and crazy cheap.

It is worth the short walk into the village for this. The resort and cafes along the way have all closed due to covid. They are the only surviving one in this village. I ordered the chicken burger that many talked about. It is 2 thin breaded patties in a burger with a light crisp. It is chicken breast meat but super tender and juicy. They have different sauces and mayo to go with the burger too! Definitely one of the best chicken burgers I have had. Did a time lapse video of the making.

Their papaya salad is also really good. Somehow all the ingredients are soft and absorbed the sauce really well. Very flavourful in each bite.

Ordered their banana shake too. Good balance of milk and fruit. Different those that I have tried.

They also have small takeaway packs like fried chicken sticky rice, banana sticky rice etc that climbers come and buy as take away for the day.

I saw a 70+ year old Caucasian lady with 2 walking sticks to support herself walked in for breakfast. She must be living here for a long while and this is a regular routine.

Exceptional food and service, wonderful local and rustic environment. An absolute must visit, huge portions, affordable prices.

This is legitimately the best food that I've eaten in my two or so weeks in Thailand. If you're in Tonsai you owe it to yourself to eat here. Definitely worth the trek over from Railay as well!

Agreed with all the reviews. Best Penang curry I have had in Thailand. Best mango shake too. Sin is super friendly and funny. It felt like eating with family.

Hidden place on Tonsai beach. Friends told us to visit it and we weren't disappointed. At the moment there aren't many people in the village, just as in whole Thailand due to covid-19. Still we get probably the warmest and friendliest welcome from the hosts and had the best ice tea and mango shake here so far in Thailand. I recommend to check in for everyone who visit Tonsai Beach, and hope that as Covid-19 decreases the people will come back to the village and the Mama's chicken.

The chicken burger is huge, but the thai food is also very delicious and cheap

The food of the place is absolutely delicious. If you don't mind roughing it, and you aren't crazy about hygienic conditions, you will love the food. But if you cant stand flies, you can always get a takeaway. Flies are more during raining season, so check on a weather app like climacell before your visit. The BBQ chicken and papaya salad are one of the best i have had in my life.

Ate 4 meals at Mama's Chicken. By the end of our stay, we were basically treated as family. Straight up. Our baby would hang out in their crib with their baby and play while we ate. Such a kind and loving family. Chicken is great, but also try the milk pancakes for breakfast. Much better than the filthy breakfast you'll find at Tonsai Bay Resort.
