Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang (Wat Hua Khuang)

วัดแสนเมืองมาหลวงเป็นหนึ่งในวัดที่อยู่ย่านเมืองเก่า วัดอยู่ตรงข้ามกับร้านอาหาร บ้านลันได ทางเข้าวัดจะดูเหมือนเป็นซอยเดินเข้าไป นักท่องเที่ยวไม่ค่อยเยอะ แต่วัดสวยและมีมุมถ่ายรูปหลายมุม รวมถึงสถาปัตยกรรม​ของวัดก็สวยงามไม่แพ้วัดอื่นๆเลย

It was a place I came across by chance on the way, but it was one of the most beautiful and quiet places I've ever visited in the Old Town.

วัดข่วงหัว หรือ วัดแสนเมืองมาหลวง เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ ตามชื่อของพระเจ้าแสนเมืองมา ผู้เป็นกษัตริย์เมืองเชียงใหม่ในอดีต มีโบราณสถาน คือ วิหาร อายุเก่าแก่กว่า 500-600 ปีมาแล้ว ปัจจุบันสร้างใหม่ตามแบบเอกลักษณ์ล้านนาเนื่องจากวิหารเดิมถูกไฟไหม้ วัดแห่งนี้เป็นวัดที่สวย สะอาด งดงาม เงียบสงบครับ อยู่ในตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่ สามารถเดินทางมากราบไหว้ ทำบุญได้สะดวก ครับ สาธุ

A nice and colourful wat. It seems to be relatively new. Charming details. Well designed ensemble.

สมัยก่อนตอนที่สร้างวัดนี้ ทำเลอยู่ทางทิศเหนือภายในคูเมือง และตั้งอยู่ด้านบนของ"ลาน"หรือสนามกว้างๆสำหรับทำกิจกรรม จึงมีชื่อเล่นว่าวัดหัวข่วง แปลว่าอยู่ด้านหัวของสนาม

10 กว่าปีก่อนตอนที่ผมมาวัดนี้ ผมรู้สึกเฉยๆไม่ได้ตื่นเต้นอะไร เพราะไม่ค่อยมีความรู้เรื่องประวัติศาสตร์ หรือศิลปะวัฒนธรรมล้านนาอะไรเลย (ตอนนี้ก็ไม่มีเหมือนกัน แฮ่) พอมาอีกทีตั้งใจมาถ่ายรูปและมาไหว้พระโดยเฉพาะ ทันทีที่ผ่านประตูวัดเข้ามา ผมนี่อ้าปากค้างเลยครับกับความอลังการงานสร้าง ตรงอาคารที่สร้างล้อมรอบองค์พระธาตุนั้น สามารถชมความงามได้แบบ 360 องศาเลย ใครชอบงานศิลปะ งานสถาปัตยกรรม หรืองานพุทธศิลป์เป็นต้องอึ้ง

จากการสืบค้นข้อมูล พบว่าองค์พระมหาธาตุเจดีย์นั้นเป็นศิละแบบเชียงแสนผสมผสานกับศิลปะแบบสุโขทัย (เจดีย์สุโขทัยนั้นจะเป็นทรงกระบอก กลมๆไม่ค่อยเป็นเหลี่ยม ไปดูเทียบกับเจดีย์วัดปันเส่า นั่นล่ะครับแบบสุโขทัย)

(EN) This temple is beautiful, it is one of my favorite in Chiang Mai. The tour is fast but there are so many details to see. Do not hesitate, it is not very visited by tourists and yet, it is superb.

(FR) Ce temple est magnifique, c’est un de mes préféré à Chiang Maï. Le tour est rapide mais il y a tellement de détails à y voir. N’hésitez pas, il n’est pas très visité par les touristes et pourtant, il est superbe.

(ES) Este templo es precioso, es uno de mis favoritos en Chiang Mai. La visita es rápida pero hay muchos detalles que ver. No lo dudes, no es muy visitado por los turistas y sin embargo, es magnífico.

No two temples in Chang Mai are the same and this Wat is no exception. I loved the contrast between the less embellished pagoda and the gilt golden temple building. Even the plants growing out of the spire give it character which you don’t see on temples elsewhere

This is one of my favorite wat.

Biggest reasons: not touristy, quiet, off the main road so it's hidden, huge, free, and beautiful.

I've noticed many established "popular" wats charge entrance fees and are bustle with tourists buses rendering the wats into businesses rather cultural relics or serene places to visit.

This wat was a discovery by accident as it was hidden in a small alley! We spent almost an hour just to walk and sit around! The inside was not open when we visited, but that's ok.

The architectures are just beautiful!

Highly recommend this place for a peaceful and quiet wat visit.

เป็นวัดที่สวยสดงดงามตระการตา เงียบสงบมาก ไม่ค่อยมีใครเดินเข้าไปข้างในวัด วัดในเมืองเชียงใหม่เยอะมาก และวัดนี้เป็นอีกวัดอยากให้เข้าไปดูกัน

This wat is in the Burmese style with white, monumental ornaments and dark, wood roofs - this wat has a different flavor than others in the area. There are no gardens, it's all paved and tidy. No interior areas seem to be open to the public, and few people are around. Really worth a visit.

สถาปัตยกรรม. สวยมาก พื้นที่ ทำเลในเมืองดี แต่ติดอย่างเดียว เหมือนแค่ทำไว้โชว์ ไม่มีพระ ไม่มีเณร มีแต่แมวตัวเดียว ที่นี่ไม่เปิดให้เข้าชม แค่ดูด้านนอกได้เท่านั้น

Beautiful temple in the North East of Old Chiang Mai city. Its rather peaceful and quiet considering is is just off a busy road. The grounds are beautiful with temples decorated in reds and golds, clearly being looked after by the monks that live there. The temple is free to walk around you just have to respect it and dress appropriately (women cover knees and shoulders). It only took us about 20 mins to walk around as it is quite a small place but we could have easily spent more time if more buildings were open.

One of the bigger Wat in Chiang Mai. You have to walk around the whole area. Interesting temples. Unfortunately all of them have been closed.

Looks very interesting, unusual in that the grounds are all paved with no gardens. I was unable to explore much because of the vicious dogs running around with no leashes or collars. It was terrifying. Maybe if you go when it's really hot the dogs will be asleep. Edit: I went again, late in the afternoon after there had been workmen there all day, and the dogs were bored and just glared at me, so I got some pictures.

Must visit temple in Chiang Mai. A great piece of architecture! It's located in old city and is spacious. There are many subtemples inside. The place is quite and non touristic.

Stunning Wat: absolutely beautiful and well hidden. Very few tourist and hard to find any information on it!

วัดเล็ก ที่อยู่เข้าไปในซอยลึกแคบประมาณ200เมตร ที่มีความสวยงามมากๆทั้งสงบและมีถาปัตยกรรมต่างที่สวยงามให้ได้ชม มีเจดีย์โบราณสูงสง่า และคนส่วนใหญ่มักขับรถผ่าน ใครมีเวลาควรแวะชมสักครั้ง
