Wat Puak Hong

Wat not big in Chiang Mai.
The historic tower is wonderful.
Please stop by the cafe at the entrance.

The area is very small. If you don’t want to crowd the popular places, you can also walk in here to see the traditional buildings.

วัดพวกหงษ์ เก่าแก่ราวๆ 500 กว่าปี
สมัยก่อนโน้นพิ้นที่แถวนี้เป็นชุมชนชาวมอญ (รามัญที่รบกับพม่านั่นล่ะครับ) ปัจจุบันคือแถวๆ"สวนหนองบวกหาด"และ"แจ่งกู่เฮือง" และด้วยความที่คำเมืองนั้นออกเสียงคำว่ามอญได้ยาก มันก็เลยเพี้ยนกลายมาเป็น"เม็ง"แทน สังเกตได้จากชื่อหมู่บ้านในปัจจุบันที่ไหนที่มีคำว่าเม็ง ก็ทายได้ไม่ยากว่าผู้คนในชุมชนนั้นต้องมีเชื้อสายมอญแน่ๆ ส่วนเจดีย์ของวัดนี้ก็มีจุดเด่นที่น่าสนใจ ก็คือเป็นรูปทรงกระบอกหลายๆชั้นที่มีฐานกลมๆ เจดีย์ลักษณะนี้มีอยู่แค่เพียง 3 วัดเท่านั้นในเชียงใหม่ และแม้ว่าตัววัดจะอยู่ใกล้กับประตูแสนปุง ที่ผู้คนพลุกพล่าน แต่ภายในวัดค่อนข้างเงียบและสงบ ชุมชนทางด้านหลังวัดก็เห็นมีแต่ฝรั่งเดินไป-มาไม่ค่อยอึกทึกคึกโครมซักเท่าไหร่

It is said to have been built in the 16th-17th century.
A direct translation of Thai is "Temple of the flight of Swan".
8 layer Chedi. Buddha is enshrined in the dug hole.
Unfortunately, there are places where there is no Buddha at present.
It is not a famous temple, but the atmosphere is very good.
It is open from 4: 00-17: 30 and is free.

The temple has a beautiful facade but don't stop there. Continue and on the back you'll find a beautiful ruin!

Attractive buildings but they are closed so can only view from outside. The Assembly Hall is a modified Lanna style and the ordination hall is full Lanna architecture. The Supa is round pyramid-like with seven layers. The Temple complex is estimated to be 500 to 600 hundred years old.

Hidden gem temple with unique round stack pagoda with tranquil vicinity / locating between Wat phra Singh temple and Buak Haad public park.

A beautiful Temple, but only if you're passing by

We were in Chiang Mai for 5 days last November for Yi Peng (Flying Lantern Festival) and Loy Krathong (Floating Lantern Festival), and we had planned a 3 day Temple circuit in the Old City inside these 5 days, the evenings being reserved to the flying and floating lanterns Festival and Awesome Parade.

We had pin pointed the most famous ones like Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara and Wat Phra Singh which are amazing.
We were on our way from Wat Phra Singh to the public park: Buak Hard Public Park and we knew there were 2 temples, kind of hidden gems, not really visited but really appreciated according to the reviews.

It would have been a pity to miss them, so we stopped by them, this one being the 2nd one on our way, the first one being Wat Muen Ngoen Kong which I have just reviewed now.

I have attached several pictures, hoping to give you kind of a feeling of this place.

However, I wouldn't recommend to go to this Temple specially for it, as there many more beautiful Temples in the Old City of Chiang Mai and this one is not in the top 10 famous ones,

Still and as I wrote it is a nice, serene island of peace, and somehow different form the other Temples, being much older and less. "shiny". One could say even more Authentic ;-)

I remember that after visiting these 2 temples and the park, we stopped to have a well deserved Massage break (aromatic oil massage) to relax from this long day walk.
I'd just recommend you do he same any time you can grab the opportunity.
Perfect break to continue our Temple Circuit in the Old City.

วัดขนาดเล็ก จอดรถได้ภายในวัด มีเจ้าอาวาสนั่งอยู่หน้าวิหาร วิหารปิดเสมอ เจดีย์อยู่ด้านหลังวิหาร มีปล่อง ด้านในมีพระพุทธรูป 52 องค์ รอบๆเจดีย์ มีกุฏิอยู่ด้านหลัง วัดที่เจดีย์เป็นทรงแบบนี้ในเชียงใหม่ มี 3 วัด มีวัดร่ำเปิงด้วย คำว่า พวก แปลว่า ขุนนาง ซึ่งเป็นขุนนางในสมัยลานนา

Another ancient temple. It's a bit off the beaten track, quiet and peaceful in the late afternoon.

Down an alley tucked in the back is this semi hidden temple. Definitely not touristy and the grounds are a little unkept but this temple is peaceful and full of charm. You feel like you are stepping into another time and place when visiting.

This temple has great pagoda.
This is the good example of an old temple with many ancient structures.

Different looking compared wiz the other Lanna temple. It also doesnt look like the normal temple in Thailand.
