Chiangmai Gate Capsule Hostel

They were rude, we were waiting for 30 min to have a room, in the end they send us to another hostel. The woman working there didn't care about us, she just really wanted the money. Not organised at all. Wouldn't recommend. My first and only bad experience in a hostel in asia.

Nice place - you got more privacy in the dorms then somewhere else. But if you arrive late in the evening to check in there is nobody, it hasnt been very nice

The location was good because it is easy to find, and in the main street.
But it was a little bit hot because the air conditioning was not working all the time. So you can pay per hour.
But overall for the room and the bath room was clean enough. There is locker but dont forget to bring your own key. The room is on the third floor and no lift. This is for budget backpacker so dont expect too much.

The staff are very kind and good people.
It was very convenient because I could speak Japanese.

Amazing location but oh my the room was so hot. You've to pay 10 bahts/hr for AC or wait for to be on from 6pm-6am. The shower is great. Bring a padlock for your valuables. Left before my last night because I purposely booked for female only dorm and woke up on randomly finding guys sharing the dorm as well.

I totally recommend this place!
I stayed in the 12 ppl dorm. The beds are comfy, are large and you also have extra space for your stuff.

I was so positively surprised. Especially considering the cheap price! I really felt like I have my small private space in that capsule. It was all clean. Coffee and toast for breakfast were included. The workers were super friendly. Awesome place. Would've stayed there for two weeks easily if my visa wouldn't have run out.

Stay away from this place!

This hostel is awful, especially the attitude of the owner.

On arrival, the receptionist was nowhere to be seen, just a phone number on the desk. My thai sim card ran out that day, so that is a nuisance.
Worse yet, the whole building is hotter inside than it is outside. The aircon in the rooms are a joke and you have to pay for them.

When i tried talking to the owner, she couldn't get her stories straight. Was the aircon free but broken? Or did i make the mistake of booking a room with fan only? (The website stated that there was supposed to be aircon).
She was very rude, hanging up on me, ignoring me when she did show in person. And her answer to the problem was "go find somewhere else to stay"

Just want to say how amazing this capsule hostel is. The beds are large, location is so close to old town, prices are affordable, atmosphere is good, they have bikes for rent and toilets are clean. People are friendly and best of all, the staff are always happy to help you and direct you in the right way. Doors are locked at night with a keycard, many people hang outside and socialize which is nice also.

โฮสเทล จุดแข็งคือราคาถูกมากๆ 88บาท ต่อคืน เป็นห้องพัดลม ไม่มีผ้าเช็ดตัวให้ แต่ราคานี้ก็โอเคมากๆแล้ว Cheap hotel. No towel everything looks OK. Owner is nice

Super-friendly owner, very good value for little money. Beds are comfy and curtains provide lots of privacy. AC at night. I will come back!

Stayed here for four days. It is cheap and strategically placed. Saturday market happens right in front, 7 eleven 1 min away, and night market with lot of cheap food options just 4 mins walk away.

Dorm bed has privacy curtains, light and two electric sockets. More importantly, she helped me with cash by swiping my card, making me save about 220 baht ATM fee from this.
Totally recommended!

Great value! Dorm beds in mixed rooms are comfortable & private. Showers get hot, they provide bigger lockers for free use if needed, and excellent location. Marissa, who runs the hostel, is fabulous. They also rent bikes for only 50 baht per day! Will definitely stay here again.

Just love this place. Centrally located in old town square. Nicely air conditioned. Owner super nice and helpful.

I wasn’t impressed, the booking allowed for 7am check in. However when I arrived after 13 hour train the bed wasn’t available. I requested a bottom bunk they said I could get a bottom bunk in the all female dorm I had originally booked after 11am when the other guest had checked out. Until then I could rest in an upper bunk in the mixed dorm but that the A/C would be turned off during the day. I’m used to that in Thailand anyway.

At 11am however, they tried to put me in a top bunk in the female dorm. I asked why she said there would be a bottom available, she had no response other than it wasn’t available. Two reasons I needed/wanted a bottom bunk. I had a biopsy on my foot the day before in Bangkok, and it’s always so hot in the top bunk.

Anyway I politely asked for a refund and to check out the next morning and told her I would stay in the current bunk because why mess up another bunk for no reason. When you walk in the dorm it is nice and cool from the A/C. There are privacy curtains in the bunk and fans on the ceiling. It was literally SO hot in my bunk even with the curtain half opened that the back of my shirt was wet with sweat. Not to mention the fans weren’t on at any point giving ZERO air circulation in the room so all of the cool air wasn’t getting circulated.

The bed was big and would have been very comfortable if not for the temperature. I also like that there was a bolster pillow in the bunk too. There aren’t enough toilets. No towels were provided. Paint was peeling off the ceiling.

The owner however, was very friendly refunded me for my second night no questions asked and even apologized for the misunderstanding with the top/bottom bunk situation. In her defense I never spoke with her about the fans or how hot it was in the room.

******UPDATE******
I am now covered in bites all over my body after staying in this hostel. Please check your bunks before staying in cheap hostels like this. I do not take writing this sort of thing lightly but I am muserabke and covered in bites everywhere.
