Finding the right church can be a difficult journey, Everybody looks for a different list of items that make their perfect church. But as a former paster, maybe I am more choosy than most.
Attended this church this morning, 16th April 2023. Coming onto the grounds, we received no personal welcome. On entering the building, there were lots of people standing around drinking tea and coffee with donuts. But nobody greeting or directing people where to go.
I noticed a sign saying service was upstairs just I heard the worship music starting. There were still several people downstairs as I started to climb the stairs to the upper floor of the building.
On entering the worship room, there were no ushers directing people. So people sat where they wished. I was surprised how many people were sitting in the back rows, while rows at the front were empty. If you are used to a comfortable padded chair at church, you will be disappointed. Only hard plastic conference chairs here.
Service had started with worship music. Contemporary worship music, a little dated, but well sung. Three songs preformed.
Then the paster, Tim, started speaking from the book of Job.
In all my many years of attending church, I think I have got used to a certain order of service. I had thought he was going to do a pre-offering talk, but no this was the main sermon. For me, I am used to church announcements and information about any facilities before going into the sermon. But not at this church. No announcements about any childrens groups or facilities, and I saw several children sitting through the whole service.
The talk on Job was about 50 minutes. I had no issues biblically on the content of the sermon. As this was the start of a new sermon series I could not judge whether the word was light or heavy. It was more of an introduction to the story with hints that the following weeks would cover more detail. The sermon was clear and well delivered.
Post sermon the worship team started up again for another three songs. Then followed the collection and announcements.
Post announcements, more three more songs were sung.
Then Paster Tim spoke a benadiction and closed the service.
I did notice a slide on the screen at the end of service says that Paster Tim was available to pray for anybody that wanted prayer, but this had not been annouced and nobody came forward.
I had been hoping for an altar call given all the joyful music, but I was left disappointed. No alter call and no invite to prayer for people as part of the service. Seems the spirit of Acts 2 truely is dead in this church. I personally believe allowing the congregation to pray over people in need of prayer is an important part of any service, but not followed here. Indentifing those in need allows the congregation to offer help and support as a community. If you don't know who needs prayer, how can you pray for them.
During the announcements, we were told that there would be a desk downstairs to direct and provide information for new visitors.
On arriving downstairs, that desk had clearly been abandoned.
The church was having two baptisms after service, so perhaps I just attended on the wrong day. I will visit them again to see if this is the case.

The music was good. The service was good. The people attending the service was friendly. Overall I enjoy the church pretty much. Will like to revisit again if I have the chance.
