Butter is Better Diner & Bakery

Excellent breakfasts, particularly the egg white omelettes plus they have really tasty gluten free bread and strong coffee!

The burgers were ok, the corned beef hash was delicious and the pancakes were fantastic, but there were no fries served with anything and it was VERY expensive. The table service was good, but the toilets were filthy and the whole place looked a bit grubby. I'd go again for the pancakes.

Just like a real dinner, old and falling apart like the ones in America which felt nostalgic. Their menu is massive. Pot pie delicious, pancakes are the best. They even make their own pastrami that is amazing! Would give 5 stars but their milk shake tasted a bit milk powdery and their onion rings were inedible because the oil was so old and had a fishy smell.

Is Butter really Better? There are some mixed reviews for Butter Is Better. People seem to love it or hate it. I am not sure I am going help clarify the situation given my review.

On the positive front - the food was generally good (with exceptions noted below). The decor and atmosphere was definitely 'American diner chic', which is nice to see in Chiang Mai because it's a bit different. The service was pretty good and friendly despite it being a busy Sunday brunch service (with one exception noted below).

Food - we had the crepes and a pastrami sandwich with onion rings. The crepes were excellent and the sauce they came with was good. The sandwich was nice, with the pastrami cut relatively thick. The home cured (I think) meat was tasty. However, the coleslaw that came with it was insipid. It lacked seasoning or vinegar, or both and was very watery. (1/2 star off). For an 'American diner' it should have been a lot better. On the positive note the onion rings were amongst the best we have had in Thailand.

Service - it was busy with every indoor table occupied. Despite this our order was taken quickly and without fuss. However the crepes came out WAY before the pastrami sandwich, so my lunch partner had nearly finished before I even got my food (she had to start since the ice cream on the side was melting!). This is a pet peeve of mine, and I value kitchens that can get the logistics of orders right. So one star off.

Overall - I would give Butter is Better 3.5 stars, but I rounded up since this is not possible. Will we be back? Yes, but maybe when it's less busy and now that we know the extensive menu a little better.

This is a great place to have a non-Thai breakfast (not that I don't like Thai food). The food is delicious, and quality is high. During one of my visits, I ordered a muesli bowl with yogurt and fruits. It was very delicious and very good quality. Coffee is also very good. The service personal is very friendly and attentive.

My gf and I visited on a Saturday morning. There were plenty of people about giving the place a good vibe. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and a bagel (we were hungry) and all three were fantastic. Will definitely return.

We're on an extended Thailand holiday and if you do crave things it's so nice to have food made with care and authenticity.

This is, hands down, the best diner in town. The detail and care put into the food is excellent. The food is so fresh and the staff is very welcoming.

One of our favorite places for western breakfast in CM. Plenty of Gluten Free entrees and desserts. We eat here regularly.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. Friendly staff, great old-school diner theme, delicious food, reasonabke price and the place generally had a real good 'feel' to it. We will be returning. 5 stars!

This place is great. Add extra time to read the hilarious menu - the person who wrote it must be a professional comedian Great gluten free options too. The decor is great and the staff are very friendly. The food was very good.

Great food and large portions makes this a favorite if your wanting a taste of back home comfort food. You won't be disappointed

It was delicious, a tad bit expensive tho, looks like a nice place, as expected a lot of foreigners so if you are cautious about COVID, might want to avoid

But that also shows that it's popular since it was full and basically all the seats were taken.

Ordered some Buttermilk pancakes and a egg salad sandwich. Both very good and I love their gluten free options. They also serve most of their dishes with less sugar or any healthy alternative they could find which I loved a lot and did not take away from the taste at all. I really loved the coleslaw that was served with the sandwich can only recommend!

High quality food hand made. The big boy burger is as Yammy as the cream cheese salmon bagel. And the staff is always friendly and quick in service. Definitely a recommendation in Chiang Mai!

If you want to eat good American breakfast or even english breakfast, you should give Butter is better a try. We realy Loved that food there, but be concious when you eat everyday there, you will gaine some pounds. The staff is very friendly and they understand my school english aswell.

Very bad experience getting delivery from here. Even though the driver arrived quickly after picking up the food everything was completely cold when it arrived.

The sandwich was edible but was cold and the meat was pretty dry. The hot dog was the saddest looking hot dog I have ever seen and both the bread and sausage was cold, hard and dry.

I also ordered a coke, which should have been a can of coke as the picture showed in the ordering app, but instead it was a half empty plastic cup and of course the coke was completely flat when it arrived because it had been shaken in the bike during delivery.

I ended up having one sip of the coke, one bite of the hot dog and less than half of the sandwich and threw the rest out. Complete waste of 500 baht.

Great diner food. Menu descriptions were adorable and fun to read. If you are homesick for the West.this is your spot! Service is super friendly!
