Sunrise Tacos Mexican Grill reviews
59 Thanks for taking the time to respond to my review. I would recommend that your Mexican chefs should be trained on how to prepare authentic Mexican cuisine. I've had several Mexican dishes prepared by Mexican chefs in BKK and it tasted nothing like what was served at Sunrise Tacos!
One example is training on how to prepare flautas, so that they taste authentically Mexican. The beef was EXTREMELY dry! I can only imagine it was because the flautas were overcooked, before the sauces were added on top of them, because the tortillas were as hard as hard-shell tacos.
There are several other points I could mention about the other "Mexican" dishes that I paid a lot for, but I think I've made my point. Good luck for the future!
ORIGINAL REVIEW
Average quality of Mexican cuisine
I should have asked for no cilantro/coriander because its not to my own tastes. The rest of the food was amazing though, and the portions are very generous, great value for money on top of great flavour.
Jackpot baby! Been eating here for years. Employees are on top of it. Food is always right. Menu is pretty diverse, although I usually get the same thing - DIY Burrito. I always order a side of every salsa and mix them up with every bite. They are all so good. Margaritas are top tier. What could make it even better: a real bar area, like Mexican restaurants in the USA, with tap beers, craft beers and more Mexican beer (Sol, Pacifico, Dos X) and deep fried ice cream.
Had a great meal here on our last day in Bangkok. We had the nachos and quesadilla (x2) between four which was the perfect size and portion for us. The staff were brilliant, especially the manager who was attentive.
I'd also recommend the horchata as this drink was delicious!
Excellent place, delicious food with an amazing atmosphere
Food for all types of allergies
Also gluten free which is rare in Thailand
Eaten twice and the service is great. It’s not authentic Mexican but it as good as it can get inside a mall. The service is excellent and very friendly staff. Special thanks to a very amazing and friendly team! First time had nachos supreme and second time enchiladas! Serving size is enough for a person or more!
This restaurant has good “Mexican food”. The taste is about 50% Mexican flavor but I understand as it is not easy to get the right ingredients far from Mexico. It is nice to taste something different besides Thai delicious food. The vibe is good and relaxing. The staff were super nice and attentive. The price is about 400 per person (food and a drink). The tortilla birria tacos are NOT 6 inches stated in the menu. They look about 4 inches just in case you are thinking to get full with two tacos (these are crunchy tortillas). I ordered “Chilaquiles” and they are definitely taste the same as the “Nachos”. I’m Mexican and I can tell you for a fact, “Chilaquiles” are not cooked like that. I give “zero start” to that dish. It is better to order nachos. Other than that, I would recommend to get some tasty birria tacos or Nachos at this place.
Amazing. Im a huge fan of Mexican food and had such amazing food at texas, this was a spot hitter. I greatly enjoyed their nachos and fajitas. The portions were crazy and the seasoning was well done. Oh and as a bonus, the margarita was strong!
Sunrise Tacos
One of the better Mexican chains in Thailand started by an expat legal service firm turned restauranteur.
The owner is clearly a fan of Mexican food and the taste reflects that. One of the best salsa selections. I recommend to go for a bottomless chip if you're a fan of nachos and salsa.
I also like their taco rice quite a fair bit. A good place for those who miss Mexicali fix.
It's a below average restaurant, I ordered Carne Asada Tacos, the beef was super strong, there was not much filling, I barely see Pico de galo and the taste is far away from what I would expect, paid 400thb+ as the VAT is not even included and I didn't finish it as I really didn't enjoy it, look like the tortilla was microwaved.
I went due to the review but what a mistake.
Heard Dear Jim left this place. We going to El Hefe Bangkok it is in Soi 34. Previous Sunrise Tacos chef owns El Hefe.
Food was pathetic here anyway.
My family and friends who are one of the oldest customers since 2007 are very sad to hear that Khun Jim has left the company. The only reason we visited terminal 21 Branch was Khun Jim as she kept everything perfect and every single time the food tasted exactly the same. We have tried food on almost all Sunrise Tacos branches and except terminal 21 the quality and service has been disappointing. It was such a wonderful feeling seeing Khun Jim. Khun Jim worked here for 12 years and getting the news was terrible.
We heard, one of the chef of Sunrise Tacos has opened up his own place called El Hefe Bangkok in Soi 34 and we would love to visit there. Reviews are quite promising too.
Delicious but not cheap. I spent roughly 350 for 3 tacos and water. No complimentary chips and salsa like some Mexican restaurant. Tacos are fresh and flavorful. Salsa is mediocre.
Got takeout on two occasions. The first time, I was impressed with their birria tacos. The best I’ve had so far in BKK, so I wanted to try other dishes the second time. This time, I got the Al Pastor bowl as I had been craving it. And man, it was a letdown. The pork is so dry like a leftover meat you reheated too many times. And it tastes nothing like al pastor. Very disappointing. I should have gone with a mor popular dish next time.
Was ok. I live in California with access to great, cheap mexican food there, so my perspective could be unfairly biassed. Compared to other Thai food, however, its a little overpriced for the quality, but a good meal. The mango smoothie was delicious
Excellent restaurant for those traveling to Thailand- Bangkok especially if you’re a vegetarian. Sunrise Tacos has excellent Mexican Food. Jim was so wonderful in providing excellent service in terms of taking special requests as my family is vegetarian.
Edit: The chips are so different from Saladaeng Sunrise Taco. I thought tacos have cream. So dry: (I also know that sunrise tacos have 7% VAT. I think no need to tell the customer about that unless we complain.
Thanks for the reply Greg. I always love Sunrise Tacos and every year celebrating my birthday at Saladaeng branch.
I love to order in this restaurant. They have fast service and friendly staff. Always smiling, I can see in their eyes even though they are wearing mask.
Sunrise Tacos has been my go-to mexican place for awhile now. I flew in from Oregon and was craving sone Mexican food so we decided to check out Sunrise Taco’s birria menu and it definitely scratched the itch. The consumé was hot and flavorful. The tacos and quesadillas were crispy and bursting with fillings.
If you are having a mexican food itch, you will leave very full AND happy.
