Somtum Der reviews
42The beef was so tough that it was virtually inedible (and this is what is advertised as homemade). Half of the pork neck was 50% fat. In addition, there was a 17% tax & service, which had never been apparent to us before. Worst value for money of our trip of several weeks, very unfortunate.
The som tam was delicious, and the beef that came out after a long wait was as tough as a tire. My jaw still hurts. It's a waste of money
Food was okish, wouldn’t recommended the house marinated beef, way too chewy, 17% of food bill added in the end for service charge and vat, should be included in the price or should be stated clearer
Overrated. Somtam is delicious. But in fact, even shabby stores on the street do this kind of scam. The soup is too spicy even though I asked them to make it less spicy. It's not spicy, it's just spicy. Overrated. The soup is not spicy, literally just HOT and sweaty. The boss is nowhere to be seen. Some part-time workers work in the kitchen. There is no feeling of a professional chef with a philosophy. It is very expensive considering the price. I even received tax separately. The soup from street vendors is much more delicious at half the price. The service is bright and friendly, but lacks sense. If you order a spicy salad like Somdam, you should recommend a non-spicy main dish or something oily, but if you order a spicy salad and two spicy clear soups, they just accept it. If it were me, I would have balanced it with a different configuration. It would be nice for a group meal in a clean and hip atmosphere.
Was craving for goong cham nam pla and cockles and a map search brought me to somtum Der at Silom. The sashimi prawns here was amazing and very fresh, and so was the cockles. Tom yum soup was a little on the salty side but it would have been really good with rice (which I didn’t have enough space in my stomach or table for with all that I ordered for 1.)
Definitely a triple thumbs up!
All of the dishes were new to me, so I asked the staff to choose them for me.was delicious
Som Tam was 80bth
Other than that, 10% and 7%? There is a separate service charge, so tipping is not necessary.
Love the service and great atmosphere.
Food was great as well. The fried chicken, grilled meats and sausages were all great.
I like the greens served in a tiny basket, cucumbers and carrots were crunchy and tasted fresh
If you like Northeastern (Isaan) style Thai food, this is one restaurant in Silom, Bangkok that I would recommend.
Basic Isaan food you should eat.you will order different types of papaya salad. Sausages in Isaan style, etc…which here tastes very spicy to very spicy. For foreigners, you can order by telling the level of spiciness.
The restaurant is clean, good service, and decorated in an Isaan style.
Traveling is very easy, not far from both BTS and MRT train. As for the price, it's reasonable.
Popular place for Thai people. Ordering also lots by Grab (Thai Uber). Nice small terrace. Not an easy menu but certainly tasty food
It was a place for Thai snacks before visiting Jazz club. Food itself is fresh yet it seems somewhat deceiving that they actually charge 18% more than the written prices. (They claim 7% VAT and 10% service charge yet they did the math wrong and rounded up) In Thailand prices include VAT and service charge is up to clients. This is somewhat against norm and make the prices look cheaper than they truly charge at the end of a meal.
Friendly staff and good atmosphere. But taste is definitely not for Thais. If you want to taste authentic SomTum this is not for you.
A bit of a tourist trap, you have pay finally on top 20% for tips and VAT. First time I see that. Chicken soup I didnt like the taste, too sour. Papaya salad was good. But its a bit pricy here in my opinion. Service was friendly.
I wouldn’t miss out on this if you are in the Silom area. Reasonably price Michelin Star Thai food. Great service and delicious dishes!
Food was tasty and refreshing! However this is not the place for you if you're looking to have an authentic Thai dining experience like the locals. This place mainly targets tourists as the prices are comparatively higher, but it's still reasonable considering how it's a Michelin star restaurant.
Great restaurant for a good somtum (and more) and a cool beer, while watching the world go bye.
I was the first customer of the day but still felt like the service was quite slow. Everything tasted just so-so. The staff were polite though.
I love the somtum here. Everything is delicious especially the fried fish and chicken soup. Their pork neck slices are also delicious. I think their noodles are good too.
It says they close 10: 30 but I arrive in 10: 15 and they say they stop taking orders at 9: 45.
