Som Tam Jay So reviews
31Came bcos of mark wein to try the issan food. It was quite good. Location is not far ftom bts. Worth a visit.price was is good
A bonafide local gem for all things Isaan. Try their chicken wings, somtum and lab. Everything we ate was super tasty and authentic and very kind on the wallet.
Everything here is delicious. So authentic, much better than most indoor restaurants in the area. Don’t be afraid to stop at a small local place! The barbecue chicken leg was my favorite! The somtum was the best we’ve had.
Street food in Bangkok is the best. This place serves delicious papaya salad and has some other significant meals on the menu. We came around 3pm and the place couple of visitors. The food was delicious.
We asked to make it not spicy but it was so spicy that I had to stop eating. The rest was good
Great authentic foodie spot enjoyed by both locals and tourists alike! Mark Wiens inspired me to venture away from the tourist spots to seek out this hidden gem and try out his recommendations. Make sure you order the wings! After you snag a seat, grab your own plate, 2 types of sauces, Coke, and cup of ice. Dishes range from 50-80 Baht. My total for 7 dishes, 3 chicken wings (sold individually), sticky rice, and a coke was 530 Baht ($16.24).
Great rustic local place for Issan (North Thailand) cuisine. Expect high level of spiciness but the taste is amazing, their highlights are papaya & larb salad, grilled dishes like pork neck (omg so juicy) and chicken wings are highly recommeded.
Go for the wings, stay for the papaya salad and authentic Bangkok street food experience.
There are no signs, so look for a green canopy covering the storefront. There is no English menu, and the lady asked if I wanted to pick out things from the grill (which I did). You can also fill out a small checklist with the food items in Thai, which is what locals do.
As for the food, the chicken is perfectly cooked and their seasoning is fantastic. The dipping sauce is delicious too. The wings are so good, you honestly don’t even need the dipping sauce. The papaya salad is very fresh and tasted great.
Very friendly staff and a warm environment to eat in. Great people, great food - I love coming here.
Seriously amazing food here. Super tasty. Owners are very honest and charged us appropriately. Each dish is between 50-70thb. Our total bill was 340thb.
Unexpecting restaurant with authentic local food, frequented by locals. Go into the alley and keep an eye out for the green walls. The huge bbq pit here churns out delicious, juicy meats.
Cost: four of these dishes cost 400+ baht. Very well priced according to the local fare.
Recommendations: the somtam (papaya salad) is their signature but the pork neck and BBQ chicken thighs are also MUST ORDERS. The pork neck in particular was juicy, fatty and very tender. The outside had developed a tasty crust, best eaten fresh off the grill.
Notes: ordering can take some time as they get a lot of takeaway orders around lunch
The dish is kinda more sweet food. The grilled pork is ok. Very hot during lunch with the long long queue. Not recommend for the person who is easily bad-tempered and hangry.
Somtum, larb, grilled catfish, grilled chicken. Not expensive. On the lunch time, it will take a long time to get your order.
Good food at reasonable prices. Amazing services. Great atmosphere. Great services by great staff. Environment was good.
Good taste but the service is quite hectic and slow during peak lunch time. Prepare to be greeted with birds picking on leftovers on other tables.
Not as good as average som tam shops. So strange why the rating is so high. Worst service attitude I’ve seen in Bangkok.
Hot and spicy one of original taste for Thai spicy papaya salad (Som-Tam). Don't missed their BBQ chicken wings! No parking lot so best with Sky train Chong Nonsi station, two blocks away.
Delicious! The owner can speak english but very limited. Doesn't have english menu so u have to know what do you want to order. That time I just ordered one dish because i'm very full. The food was Som tum khao pod (Papaya Salad with Corn). Maybe you can order others like Khao neow (Sticky Rice), Som tum kai kem (Papaya Salad with Salted Egg), Larb pla duk (Catfish Salad), Gai Yang (Grilled Chicken), but i haven't tried it. Next time I will try them. Recommended! Mark wiens suggest this too.
Very popular at lunchtime, Esan food like grilled chicken, catfish, papaya salad all very delicious!
