National Museum of Royal Barges

We took a boat and got down at the nearest pier and walkes around 950 meters to reach this place. It was all small alleys and the people were doing their daily stuff. It is an interesting walk and since Thai people are very nice, it is safe to walk in those alleys (it is an experience, alleys are probably 4 to 6 ft wide).

Once we reached this place, it is amazing. Not a very big museum with lots of displays. But worth visiting. If you take a private boat ride, then there is a stop here on the front side of it.

Also the way to the musuem is already a small adventure through all the small streets.

You can reach this place by getting off the Chao Phraya Express Boat (Orange Flag) at the Pinklao Bridge stop and then walking through some small back alleys to the museum.
There are far more Royal Barges stored by the Thai Navy elsewhere, but here you can see eight of the finest. Each barge is beautifully carved and gilded lacquer and mirrored glass decoration. You must pay an additional fee to take photos here. These Barges are still used by royalty on very special occasions.

The museum displays amazing royal barges. It's located over a canal and there are platforms to walk. There are around 10 royal barges with splendid ornament of gold. You cannot go too close to them. There is an entry fees and incase you want to take pictures you have to purchase another ticket for the same. Museum is not very busy and you need not to make prior booking. There is not much to watch (will hardly take half an hour to cover everything) but whatever is there is worth watching.

They keep some parts of the original barges structure (not all as they were damaged during war) but all remaining are réplicas.
Permit to take photos is 100baht

Fantastic craftsmanship. Torturous narrow path by bike. Get there by boat. Show Thai drivers license for local entry price. Well worth visit.:)

From main road need walk inside a 1,5mt narrow road ; have information how to reach the place.
Can pay cash or book online but price depend on what like to do, everything need to pay separately, is incredible.
Some boat history, interesting but not so special as expected.

We stopped here as part of a boat tour. You can only get there by boat. It was actually one of our favorite stops in Bangkok. We were the only tourists there at the time. The boats are very impressive!
I do wish the surrounding water area had been cleaner, there was a lot of trash.

ข้อเสีย ข้อติคือ วันนี้ที่มาไม่สามารถเดินผ่านทางกองเรือเล็กได้ ทหารยามบอกนายมา ห้ามผ่าน! คือแบบห้ะ!?
เลยต้องเดินทางเข้าไปในทางแคบๆ ข้างๆนั้น คือขาดความเปนทางการมากๆ คือแบบถึงจะไม่ได้ไกลมาก แต่แบบดูไม่ดีเลย
สถานที่ควรรวมเรือทั้งหมดไว้ที่เดียวกันนะ คนไทยเสียค่าเข้าแค่ 20 บาท แต่จะถ่ายรูปต้องจ่ายเพิ่ม 100 รวมเปน 120 ต่อคน ซึ่งมันเปนไปได้ไหมว่ามาแล้วจะไม่มีคนถ่ายอะ น่าจะสัก 60 บาทต่อคนไปก้อจบ ต่างชาติก้อ 300 ไปจบ แค่ห้ามขาตั้ง ห้ามวีดีโอก้อพอแล้ว. ทำให้ยุ่งยากทำไม.

ตอนเด็กๆไปเรียนหนังสือ ร รโยธินบูรณะผ่านทุกวันครับเพราะบ้านผมอยู่ในคลองขุดมหาสวัสดิ์จะมีเรือหางยาวแล่นมาจากประตูน้ำฉิมพลีมาจอดท่าช้างท่าพระจันทร์นอกเหนือจากเรือคลองขุดแล้วยังมีเรือบางระมาดเรือหางยาวบางใหญ่บางกรวยด้วยครับ บรรยากาศริมคลองมองเห็นเรือดูสวยงามชวนมองมากความรู้สึกดีดีแปลกๆครับ

พิพิธภัณฑ์ที่ตั้งอยู่บริเวณปากคลองบางกอกน้อย ภายในพิพิธภัณฑ์ฯ จัดแสดงเรือพระราชพิธีสำคัญ 8 ลำ และยังมีเครื่องประกอบและสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ในพระราชพิธีต่าง ๆ จัดแสดงอยู่ด้วย ค่าเข้าชมฟรี ถ่ายรุปเสียเพิ่ม คนละ100- ต้องติดต่อกับเจ้าหน้าที่เพื่อรับบัตรครับ.

พิพิธภัณฑ์แหล่งรวบรวมความรู้ศิลปะ วัฒนธรรมไทยตั้งแต่อดีต หลายยุคหลายสมัยมีการจัดห้องแสดง เป็นสัดส่วน แสงสีเสียง ให้ความรู้ทางประวัติศาสตร์ชาติไทย สวยงามมาก และยังมีเรือพระราชพิธีเรือต่างๆที่มีขนาดใหญ่มาก ราชรถต่างๆสร้างตั้งแต่สมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 จัดแสดงให้ชม

The barges are very beautiful but it's difficult to take pictures of them because they are so long and the way they are sitting in the water. They charge extra for taking pictures as well, per camera or phone camera.

100bt to look at 8 boats, another 100bt to photograph them - totally not worth the money. Also hard to find and the guards are rude

The museum of royal barges is a fascinating place to visit. View and learn all about the royal barges, used by the royal family and their many oarsmen. Learn the history behind them. Some of the barges even have damage caused by bombing in World War Two. Painted in gold leaf, and decorated with wood carvings, with amazing attention to detail, the barges are a spectacular sight. A little difficult to find, but if you make the effort, you’ll be glad you did.
