Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA BANGKOK) reviews
26 Nice museum building, BUT: the museum needs better and more thoughtful curation. Its very breast-heavy let’s say, and I’m really wondering why? ! Also quite random order of pictures, only a few were really worth the visit I must admit. I expected a bigger variety of Thai contemporary artists, the building would give them a wonderful venue to showcase their art.
The exhibition on the ground floor was closed and only opens at 4pm apparently ….
Great selection of paintings from Thai artists - I did however expect a wider range as well as more mixed media. Would however return!
A very good museum, definitely worth a visit. BACC and especially River City are incomparably better. Just dress warmly, it's terribly cold inside.
I paid 120THB because im a student but it's 240THB for admission. The admission tickets are a little steep but I think the museum is worth a visit. There is a good selection of contemporary art, however it is very much different from that you might see in mainstream contemporary galleries like The Broad - most of the contemporary art has Buddhist influences which makes for a very refreshing take on modern art, hence it might be useful to first understand some common Buddhist motifs and symbolism prior to viewing the gallery.
Nice museum, with a lot of potencial. Not sure what all the old masks etc were doing inside, but half of this modern museum is actualy a modern museum.
Lots of artwork. Diverse variety in them, scale and medium. Eye opening experience. Vibes are immersive.
Very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing museum, I'll sure come again, to see many many edges and corners I haven't checked before on my first visit there to MOCA. I went to take famous spot photo Taken by Thai Actors.and it's worth it hehe.
Great art museum and very big, around 6 floors, super clean and spacious, tkt price was 280 baht, there is a train station just near that can take you back to chatuchak mrt and bts
We thought it was a free museum. Turned out that they charge 250 baht for adult and free of charge for seniors and children (12 or younger). That's ok, we were ready to pay. However, we still NEED to show them a proof of ID card for our kids' age (and of course we didn't bring any with us). The staff kept asking for the ID even though we confirmed that our sons were 10 and 12. (Our sons are not even considered as tall compared to their friends) Well, that's it. So we left. No harm done but probably not on our future list to visit. The problem was not about charging but trusting your clients.
The architecture of the museum plays with sunlight.
If you love Thai esoteric art, MOCA is home to many of such pieces.
Entrance fee for visitors is 250B.
I haven't seen a gorgeous huge art museum like this for a while. It's sooo cool. The place is full of traditional art, modern art and lots of them.
It's very easy to spend your whole day at MOCA.
I went there with my friend, it was a quick tour, but it still takes me around 3-4 hours there.
So, it's a must visit place I'd recommend you guys to go.
A fantastic building located seemingly in the middle of nowhere with a handful of beautiful works much out-numbered with acres and acres of absolute dross.
The curators either had very little talent to choose from or had appalling taste but much of the art in this gallery was of a first year degree student standard. Especially the painting witch almost universally was derivative poorly executed and had a casual misogyny that jumped from the canvas.
However some of the sculptures in their space were lovely, but they should hire a freelance curator to help free the overly burdened walls from some quite dreadful art.
My friend and I agree: one need not be an art enthusiast to enjoy this collection. An appreciation for women's breasts would be sufficient.
Nevertheless, the were some very lovely and moving pieces displayed, and we also liked the unique wooden sculptures used as seating in the galleries.
There's an overwhelming amount of art - you could go for an entire day and still not have enough time to appreciate the place! It focuses a lot on major art eras and famous artists, so if you are looking for more contemporary pieces, go to the BACC instead.
Great display of Thai Contemporary Art!
Modern architecture, perfect overview of different shapings of local modern art. Well spent 2h in quiet atmosphere.
Only a little more information about artists would be great.
An impressive and varied collection of predominantly Thai artists. A well curated, and well designed musuem. Worth the 200 baht entrance and the grab to get there. I spent about two hours inside. Do bring a jacket as, in typical Thai style, it's quite AC inside.
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Bangkok (MOCA) houses the most comprehensive collection of modern painting and sculpture in Thailand inside a striking, purpose built gallery. The five storeys of MOCA contain over 800 pieces of art collected by communications magnate Boonchai Bencharongkul and showcase the development of Thai fine art
The museum is far away from city but very worth to visit. You can see great Thailand art piece that totally out of box here!
A carefully curated collection of arresting art from Thailand. There are five floors of exhibits and I think it is too much for one visit. There are some large format paintings that can draw you in. Came here on a Sunday morning and it was not crowded at all. You should definitely check this out if you are in the area.
