MOONRIVER by VJ reviews
11Bought 5 shirts and all 5 came back different sizes with 2 fitting as desired. 1 shirt wasn't even altered after my first fitting. Tried to contact them regarding this and I was blocked. Buttons have fallen off most of the shirts after 2 washes. Plenty of better Tailors than this one on the strip. Don't choose this one!
Use VJ for most of my clothes at this point - suits, jackets, shirts, etc. Higher price and quality than your standard $100-200 Asia suits, but this stuff is designed to last, be worn, and look good.
I was very pleased. I bought a suit and five shirts and they are very good. I can highly recommend this tailor.
I have been buying tailored clothes from VJ for more than ten years and many of his suits and shirts have stood the test of time. I have tried other tailors in the past, but none compare in quality.
Called and asked if they rent suits. I was told “yes we do”. Rushed over only to discover he had 2 suits available with only one size.
Very disappointing to come all the way for 2 suits to choose from.
This was the best tailoring experience we have ever had. I got a dinner suite, with all the trimmings, made for me. VJ was very helpful and accommodating. My wife got a red silk dress, that was to her design, which VJ helped get just right. We are going to return this weekend for more clothes.
I recently bought a suit and five shirts at Moonriver by VJ. I picked Moonriver after comparing prices and stitching at several other tailors. My tailored suit and shirts from Moonriver beat my regular ones from premium Western brands in terms of comfort, style and price. Two disclaimers for this review: A) This was my first time buying tailored clothes. Therefore, I can't compare it with other fitted clothes. B) I have not worn the clothes extensively, as I bought them recently. Thus, I do not yet know how the clothes will stand the test of time, wear and tear. That being said, three things to keep in mind when considering this tailor: 1) Moonriver is not the cheapest tailor in town. Other tailors asked 15-20% less for shirts and suits. Don't expect to bring prices down by bargaining. While other tailors quickly dropped their prices to win me over, I could only persuade VJ to take a couple of hundred Baht off my suit. 2) The quality of stitching is the best we found in Bangkok, particularly in the shirts. 3) The shopping experience is fantastic. I spent hours trying different textiles, selecting the exact buttons I wanted for my suit and asking VJ questions about his wares, his shop and his method. The personnel, and particularly VJ himself, will spend hours with you to get every detail just right.
I moved to Bangkok in 2002. In my time here I have had clothing made by five different tailor shops before discovering Moon River by VJ.
I was referred to Moon River by a friend and the instant I met VJ and his staff it was apparent this was no ordinary Bangkok tailor. Professionalism through and through.
One thing you will find is that almost any tailor can “cut & sew” with reasonable quality. I have a closet full of "ok" suits and "not bad" shirts.
But when you have an expertly tailored suit you know the difference.
The first thing you will notice about Moon River is the absence of the sidewalk barker. Walking down Sukhumvhit is a barrage of hawkers trying to lure you in to their shop.
Once inside, rather than just handing me a stack of old magazines and asking me select something, VJ took the time to talk with me about my needs. What type of meetings do I attend, who do I meet, what do I already have in my closet, and of course the budget I had in mind.
Then I began my lesson in fabric qualities and blends. Moon river has a range from easily affordable fabrics for the High School graduates first suit all the way up to actual Ermenegildo Zegna fabrics imported from Italy. It is worth a trip to the shop just to see these Italian fabrics.
Today was my third purchase from Moon River. I highly recommend the work of Moon River by VJ.
They take tailoring to a new level.
Look for them next to the Sheraton hotel on Sukhumvit road right near the BTS stairs
Really pleasant and helpful staff and I am very pleased with the shirts and suit that they tailored. I will be going back for more!
I was referred over to Vijay from a friend of a friend. Basically, i wear suits everyday in my occupation and i'm sick of the poor quality and short lifespan. In addition, I am a weird body shape, so nothing fits right.
I have to say, i did not know what to expect when i got measured by Vijay and picked my suits and shirts our through small pieces of cloth. I really went "all in" hoping this is the solution for my suit issues. When i got the suits and shirts, i was blown away. I have never worn anything that fit me so well. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SUIT IS PERFECT! There is no other way to put it. I honestly will never buy a suit off the rack again and will FOR SURE be buying more from Vijay in the future.
I am finished with Moon River! I have had three suits made by them and numerous shirts. Two of the suits were disasters, including the Tuxedo they made for me for my daughters wedding. When I showed them the mistakes on the suit including one shoulder being off a full 1.5" form the other side, they would just argue with me. I finally gave up on them and suits. I went in today to order some pants and shirts. I ordered three pants from the lowest Silver rack (they have three different pricing sections Silver, Gold, Platinum.) the price for each section was always fixed. I picked all from one section and I am told the prices are different (higher). Then they had the audacity to say that they never had three different pricing sections and treated me like I was crazy. Picking out the shirts they did the same thing. They knew that in the past I had picked from the highest quality suit and shirt materials, so now everything I pointed to suddenly became, best quality highest price, even the large rolls of low cost materials they keep in their toilet. They have poor quality and will always argue with you when you point out their obvious poor workmanship. Now they are resorting to playing pricing games!
