My partner had a conference in Bangkok, and I joined him for a working holiday. He surprised me with a reservation at this hotel for my birthday. The hotel's public spaces were undeniably stunning, and we thoroughly enjoyed its rich history and the delicious breakfast.

However, our stay was marred by a significant issue with the service. I had intended to get some work done within the hotel's premises. Still, the staff continuously questioned my attire and reservations at different places during the morning and afternoon hours. My choice of dress has never been an issue in any place before. This made it uncomfortable for me to use any of the public areas, ultimately leading me to retreat to our (kitschy maritime) room.

When I joined my partner and friends at the Bamboo Bar for some leisure time, I was immediately given a shawl, while my companions faced no such scrutiny.

So, surprising your partner with a stay at the Mandarin may not be the best idea. It's a trip that requires careful planning and consideration, especially when it comes to dress code and reservations. This trip really made me aware that certain conventions remain in place for women.

Super top notch hotel. Old fashioned classic Asian luxury. Staying here will make you feel as if you are in BKK, as opposed to some other newly opened hotels (such as the Four Seasons or Capella), which could be anywhere in the world.

The MO exhales charm, character, timeless elegance, and a welcoming atmosphere. It makes you feel at home away from home.

The location is superb, the River Wing has beautiful views on the Chao Phraya, rooms are spacious, butler service in each floor, and a magnificent spa.

Finally, the staff could not be more gentle and helpful. TOP.

Definitely THE PLACE to go when in BKK.

We stayed here in the MO BKK again for five nights and enjoyed some of the luxury treats of this ️️️️️hotel. When you arrive you are immediately diving into a relaxed and calm atmosphere.
„The rich are different from the average“ comes every time more true at this place. If you need to wait for your room to be ready you can do so at the Café or at pool side.
It’s a quantum leap against other luxury hotels in terms of service and atmosphere in deed and the history of the hotel adds an additional colonial connoisseur flair. There are still spaces reserved for the Royal family in the Author’s Lounge!
Highly recommend, the pictures speak for themselves.

We did high tea here (you'd better go hungry) and loved it. It's not just that the presentation was great, but also that they offer gluten free and vegetarian options. The tea selection is sublime.

I would like to submit HARD COMPLAINT on your VERY RUDE SERVICES at VERANDA RIVERSIDE.

I have never experienced such outregous treatment from any hotel, let alone 5 star hotel. This is a serious incident that i do hope will never be experienced by any other guests.

Chronology:
1. My Husband and I decided to spend and book relaxing treatment at oriental spa. Everything was perfect, we enjoyed our cannabis massage on beautiful deluxe suite.
2. We finished the treatment around 6pm and plan to meet our friends who awaiting us at veranda.
3. When we met our friends, he was enjoying himself with some drinks and snack. We sat down and plan to order
4. One of the waiters came to us and immediately said that my husband cant be sitting there because he wore a short and they have policy on it
5. We said ok, but since our friend is still having his drink, we ask to let him finish and will go (we even ask can we go to any other places in the hotel to enjoy our evening and they said no coz no short allowed)
6. We respect the policy and no intention to insist staying. Then, from there it all went downhill. The waiter rudely said we need to go soon and remove all the snacks, clean up the table and gave us the cheque! We didnt get the name of the waiter
7. IS THIS HOW MO TREAT THEIR PAYING CUSTOMER? Hushing people at instance IS NOT ACCEPTABLE LET ALONE AT 5 Star!
8. Shocked by the treatment we asked the waiter whom delivered cheque to give us comment card.
9. Upon waiting, instead of comment carf, came MR TONRAK (Assistant Restaurant Manager). He tried to DEFENSE by saying its the hotel
Policy on no short. We didnt argue on your policy, but we are NOT OK WITH the way we are treated by being hushed and clear the table.

Never even been my life being treated so rude!

Good
- All staff are friendly (kindness to the extent that I wonder if this is customer service.)
- Modernized rooms through remodeling
- It is good to go to Icon Siam by boat across the Chao Phraya River
- A variety of breakfast menus, lots of bread, lots of drinks, and free cocktails

Bad
-Slightly small swimming pool for those who like to play in the water (approximately 15 meters)

Iconic and historic hotel. Famed for being one of the best in the world. I'm a photographer and have photographed weddings here in the past. The staff are excellent and venue is incredible. The Grand Ballroom is beautiful and weddings in the Authors Lounge is so elegant.

For taxis, locals refer to this hotel as "Olien-ten".

Stunning setting, fantastic tea, excellent service would definitely recommend! It is simply a must when in Bangkok!

What a gem of a hotel. The MO delivers every bit of charm you'd expect from this long established brand. The function rooms are oppulent and is more palatial than hotel.

Protip: take the ferry service across the river (its free) if you have the time.

Grand old dame hotel with traditional Thai interiors. Luxurious and well looked after. A lot of history in this hotel. Service is good and attentive.

In regards to the riverside terrace restaurant, this place really looks the part. If you want something that is going to make an evening really special than this is the place, just as long as you are willing to pay for it. The service was super attentive and food came out in a very ordered and consistent manner. The food tasted good and I left happy and satisified. However, considering in Bangkok it is not hard to get food of similar quality to what I had, but at a fraction of the price, the price could be slightly lower. Once you add wine, starters or desserts that price climbs quickly. That being said, great place for something special.

Very nice if pricey afternoon tea - over all a bit of a disappointment considering it is or was supposedly the best hotel in South-East Asia. Lacks generousity

Great location for lunch or high tea, also the.option of a dinner cruise on a rice barge. Lovely setting on the river watching the boats go by

Not as a hotel guest but for high tea. A once in a lifetime special treat, although we came back after 20 years. Book well in advance and savour everything

In the way back to our hotel and we were not disappointed.the service was attentive and the wine was perfect albeit pricey. Wet towels were brought to wipe our hands and my sister in laws drink came with an appetizer which was tasty.the ambiance was warm and inviting. The Manager was friendly and shared some funny stories and gave us some history about the hotel. I'm glad we made it a point to stop as it was worth it.

Couldn't ask for more. Service standard at its best. Breakfast overlooking Chao Phraya river with the most wonderful buffet spread

Stayed here many times over last 5 years. I think this is the most classy and down to every details hotel service in the world. All tje other ultra luxury hotels I stayed at, should learn from MOBKK. If you are not a royal, they will make you feel as though you are, yet you will feel at home, relax, cosy. They just read your mind and mood and needs, and make everything be perfect in a seamless way.
